My diary has been here since 2005. I have always used it to reflect and process. Writing has been the best therapist for me, though I have actually had some excellent therapists, as well. I took a 12-year break and recently began using it as a launch pad for writing a memoir.

Until 6/23/2019, I was OnionGirl. See entry of the same date for why the change.

    October 6, 2024
My very best friend in the world is taking care of her mother who is rapidly declining into dementia.  She's taking her to church, today, and Bestie and I have similar feelings about church. Before I get into that, let me share with you the conversation she and I were having: Her I'm sitting in&h...

A cross-post from Facebook with a couple of interesting updates It's been almost a year since Opie joined Magnum, Katy, Chunk, Despereaux, and Tootsie across the rainbow bridge. I never realized how much he was keeping me moving. I've had a general sense of bleh, ever since. It took me a while to...

  • Depressed in My Body?
    March 25, 2024
I have struggled with depression and anxiety for most of my life.  I’ve gotten pretty good at managing it.  I know what things usually calm me down or pick me up.  I know the conversations to have with myself. What I’m currently experiencing is some weird kind of depression in which I just want t...

  • Give Me a Reason
    December 29, 2023
The only reason I'm out of bed, this morning, is that I have the urge to write.  I got up.  God dressed.  Took meds.  Fed cat.  Ate raisin bran. Now I sit in front of this computer trying to decide what I want to write about.  I need to finish up the invoice for December…

  • Love. That is the Greatest Commandment.
    December 24, 2023
On December 18, the Vatican announced a new declaration approved by Pope Francis that opens the path for LGBTQ+ people’s relationships to be blessed in the church.  You can read the text of it here. I have a lot of respect for this Pope.  I think he practices what he preaches, which is that “God ...

    December 11, 2023
My teen years were mostly awful.  My parents were doing and dealing meth.  They’d have drunken brawls in the middle of the kitchen.  There was a lot of screaming and a lot of ugliness, and Teri and Bill were right in the middle of it all. I think what was most painful about that…

Despite my best efforts, I have covid. Fortunately, I have a PCP who knows my history and is amazing about checking and replying to emails. Drew is out to get my Paxlovid and some soup. I'm currently feeling sorry for myself, because there is no way I will risk exposing my family to this just&hel...

I can’t believe that it’s finally here.  On the 14th of October, Drew and I will be getting married. And I am so freaking stressed! I can’t find my dress!  We’ve moved our hoard twice since our original wedding date.  I thought it was in a specific suitcase, but it’s not! I learned after my…

  • How Could We Ever Forget?
    September 11, 2023
I really hate this day.  It's something I'm almost afraid to admit, but that day was so awful, I don't want to memorialize it every year. I was in the classroom that day.  Throughout the day, I had more than 150 students in my classroom.  They were scared.  They were confused.   We all were.  And...
