NoJoMo 9: Holiday in Cambodia

I just can’t get a decent night’s sleep.  Half the time it is my own damn fault, because being a night person means I get my third wind about 11pm and next thing I know it is 1am and I am still up even though my alarm clock is going to ring in like 5 1/2 hours.  My night self couldn’t care less what my morning self thinks and my morning self curses my night self almost every morning.  But it can be other things like going to bed about 45 minutes earlier last night….only to wake up almost exactly 45 minutes before my alarm was to go off.  And do I use that extra time to get ready and make an easier, less stressed morning?  No sirree, I fire up the laptop and screw around on the computer until my alarm goes off anyway.  And when all was said and done (getting the kids and I ready, lunches made, out the door, scrape the damn car, drop off the kids, and get to work) I am not late but really close and later than I can remember being in a long time.

We ate at McDonald’s today, which is actually a pretty rare thing.  We probably average a trip there every other month.  Part of it is expense, even though McDonalds in cheap.  It was about 12 bucks for my meal and the kids meals were 6 bucks a piece.  Part of it is also that McDonald’s is bad for you and the kids don’t need that on regular basis.  Much better if it is a special thing.  We were going to go shopping at a pet store to buy something for Emma’s guinea pig and I apparently missed the message where I was supposed to buy the frozen pizza’s we were going to quickly have before we left.  I had a Big Tasty.  The second paragraph of the product description is what is sold here.  It was, well, tasty.  And big.  So successfully named, McD!

I’m thinking that spending half of my day in 30C degrees (about 86F) and then standing outside for an hour in -4C (about 24F) is probably not real great for my head.

I need to think about going to bed…Early again.  So its on to…

Videos!

Continuing…finally done with the metal crap.  Had a friend of mine introduce me to another friend who handed me a copy of Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables by by the Dead Kennedys.  It was a revelation and I loved it so.  The DK’s are still one of my all time favorite punk bands.  The first song that really inspired me was perhaps their biggest at the time: Holiday in Cambodia.

From there I was off into punk land.  Minor Threat was one of the greats and I loved their one and only album.  Of course Ian Mackaye went on to found Fugazi who were also awesome.

MDC (Millions of Dead Cops, among other ways to de-acronym their name) was another band that I had a lot of and even saw once in like 1984 (??  not totally sure, I was like 15 or so).

I could go on and on.  I spent a year totally being all things punk.  And then my aunt went to England on vacation, met some dude who gave her a couple of records which she didn’t like, gave them to me and I started to broaden my horizons into the British new wave.  But that’s for tomorrow…

I don’t think they’ve ever sold that at the McD’s here. It’s funny when you look at the variants…in Australia they put beetroot on it! Weird.

They don’t have Big & Tasty’s here anymore and it was my fave. It didn’t have that awful Big Mac special sauce or the disgusting re-hydrated onions like the cheeseburgers. Just ketchup, mustard and mayo with lettuce, cheese, & tomato. (I always had it with no meat. Whatever) It was delicious. And now it is no more. Unless I come to Norway! Yet another reason to add to the list…

Now that I think about it, I suppose you do have to scrape your car nearly everyday in the winter. 🙂 See, I love these details! Do you have pictures of wintertime?
