NoJoMo 28: Rhinoceros

My previous entry of the day, back one.<————-

The kids slept until 9 today, which means I got to sleep until 9 as well.  We then, me and the kids since the lovely and talented Mrs. Zaphod is working her way to her exam on Friday and needs the time alone to study, we went to my work and swam for a few hours and then popped into the grandparent since they live right there and they just got back from their two week vacation in Turkey.  Swimming was fun for the kids and we had hamburgers and pizza (frozen, both, since they had little food having been gone for two weeks).  Actually a pretty relaxing day.

Weekends are too short.

Cletus is like the best white trash name ever.

You know, last year when I did this NoJoMo thing, when it was done, when I promised that I would keep writing regularly, I took like 6 weeks off.  I really hope I don’t do that this year.  You can see it here, I see it in other people, that writing every day for a month gets kind of old after day 20 or a little more.  You really do start running out of stuff to stay.  Or you actually start thinking about it like a chore, something you have to do.  And then when you feel pressure to write something, you suddenly have nothing to say.

There are still plenty of things I want to write about, I could write about.  But some of those things are topics I don’t want to half ass, I need to sit down and really write it with care in order to say what I want to say.  So I don’t, and you get this meta writing about writing.

The point is that, yeah, starting to run out of random crap to write about.  And I really do plan to set aside a couple nights a week to write an entry.  I really enjoy doing this month of writing.  I like writing here.  I like sharing music with you all (but speaking of that, what the hell is up with the Diary Circles here?  I am not sure I have gotten a single note from all these entries, every single one of which I added to the Music Circle.  What are the circles even for if it isn’t leading to any interaction from people?).  I really will try, even if my past record would leave everybody here to have no faith in that promise.

Videos!

I said I would do a whole entry on the Smashing Pumpkins and here you are.  I am going to try to post three of my favorite Pumpkins songs, if I can remember what they are (they change!) and if they have videos.

First up, Rhinoceros from their first album, Gish.  I just love how this song just slowly builds into a big wall of sound at the end.

Next up is Mayonaise, from their second album, Siamese Dream.  I love the melody of course, and I also love that whole stop/start thing they get going with the guitar part.

And an unusual choice for the last one.  Geek U.S.A. from Siamese Dream.  The song is cool enough, but this is mostly due to one thing: Jimmy Fucking Chamberlin on drums.  Seriously, he is playing the holy shit out of his drums on this song.  I could listen that all day.

Mayonaise is one of my favourite SP songs. It almost always makes me cry. Those two sentences don’t really go together, but there you have it.

Also: Billy Corgan looks weird with long hair. I do love that song, though. <3

You’re right, that’s some awesome high-energy drumming on Geek USA.
