NoJoMo 14: Smothered Hope

It was Norwegian Father’s Day here.  The kids let me sleep until nine, which was cool.  Spent a good part of the day cleaning which is fine enough.  The Wife made a pork roast.  With it we had potatoes, a roasted red onion with paprika butter, sauerkraut and a chanterelle mushroom gravy.  Here’s a pic:

That stuff on the left there is the fat from the roast.  I don’t really remember doing that in the States but here you leave the fat on, let it get all crispy in the oven and eat it.  It’s like bacon, so how can you go wrong there?

And for desert was strawberry cheesecake.

I got some little things from the kids, the best being a card from Emma that said I was the best dad she could ever want and the best dad in the whole world.  That’s pretty much all you need to hear.

And now I am watching the Dolphins beat the Titans.  Pretty damn good Father’s day.

Videos!

From the synth me and my new friend went to check out a new record store we heard about called Vinyl Fetish (the same name as a pretty famous record store in Los Angeles).  They had all kinds of underground stuff we wanted.  There was also a guy there who was really odd and he started recommending stuff to us.  One of the first was Skinny Puppy, which launched us into industrial music and became one of my favorite bands (one of the few industrial bands I can still listen to.  Industrial has gotten kind of boring).  Here is the first song by Skinny Puppy I ever heard.

Foetus is another one that became a "collect everything" sort.  The first album we heard was Nail which had this song on it.  It’s amazing that one dude is making all this noise.

On the dancier end was Front 242.  They were actually almost popular in the mainstream for a while there.  This is still a fantastic song that I can’t help but tap my foot to.
