NoJoMo 11: Are Friends Electric
Every few months I try out the different browsers, jumping from my beloved Firefox over to Chrome and even Safari and Opera. And every single time, after a few days of playing around with it, and discovering a lot of cool things that the other browsers can do that Firefox doesn’t (I really like the Chrome extension called Wiki Companion, which is a little button that you click that brings up a little window and you can search Wikipedia Mobile in that little window instead of using a whole tab. Can’t find anything in Firefox that does that), I end up right back at Firefox because of some small thing that I can’t deal with in the other browsers. Chrome is really nice but it ends up, over time, chewing up massive amounts of memory and slowing everything down. Opera is just too odd in comparison, though it is nice looking and fast. Safari is Apple and Apple stuff drives me crazy. So I am back to Firefox again.
One of my biggest pet peeve’s living here is small and petty in the larger scheme of things. Still annoys the crap out of me though. It is that I can’t count on the grocery stores here to actually be in stock of the things I want. Like today, when I went to five different stores after work to get we wanted (I needed vacuum cleaner bags at one shop, another place has the coffee we like in cheap bulk, another place has the cheapest soda in town, we wanted some sliced roast beef and another shop is really good and cheap for that and the shop we hit the most has cheap chicken breasts and most of the other stuff we buy). So I stop at the place where I am going to get the coffee and I start loading the cart with other stuff because it is a decent and cheap shop and I find out that they are out of the coffee we want…which pretty much negates the whole stop because I wouldn’t stopped and bought a thing there if I had known there wasn’t coffee, I could have bought all the rest somewhere else. It’s stuff like that that drives me crazy. Oh, and I bought the wrong vacuum cleaner bags, so there was two wasted trips.
In better, old fashioned Zaphod news, it was blowjob in the shower day here, before the kids got home from school. Not that there needs to be a special occasion for those as I get one every couple weeks anyway, but it is Father’s Day in Norway this Sunday and that is my traditional Father’s Day gift from the Wife. Oh, and she is making a cheesecake for Sunday as well. Blowjobs and cheesecake…pretty much heaven.
Now I have to pee and I want to finish this so I will move on to…
Videos!
So, I met this guy in high school when I was working at the Italian restaurant. He was a total synth head and I believe what opened the conversation about music was Aha playing on the radio and me commenting on it. One of his favorite artists was Gary Numan and through him I became a Numanoid as well, amassing a ridiculous collection of vinyl. So this is the Gary Numan edition!
I’m not gonna play Cars because everyone cool already knows that one. Are Friends Electric was a gigantic smash in England in 1979. This is that song on British TV.
This is mid-period Numan, with the blue hair and white face. So 80’s but I thought it was totally cool back then. I was totally obsessed with this song for a long time, particularly this long mix.
And this is from 2006. Gary flushed his career down the toilet in the early 90’s in repeated attempts to get another hit. In the mid-Nineties he got back to basics, just him by himself in the studio and reinvented himself as gothic/darkwave.

CHROME FOR LIFE!!! After I installed the IE extension so I can update OD and log on to the Kaplan website, I never looked back. So this weekend I went to good ol’ Hy-Vee for groceries. I went to the organic/health section to get the bulk orgranic free-trade hippie coffee that I usually get only to find that they have replaced it with another brand of organic free-trade hippie coffee. Thatwould be fine except that all of the varities were HALF DECAF. Who the hell wants to drink coffee with LESS caffeine in it? I had to buy a more expensive kind of coffee. I was annoyed. <3 m
