NoJoMo 10: The Ghost in You
I’m already in bed. Early, but I have to do something to get more sleep. My eyes are already burning.
Today, I helped my father-in-law turn Sara’s regular bed into a bunk bed or I guess a loft bed. He built legs for it and a ladder and I helped but it together and secure it to the wall. Sara was very excited and she wrote a note that she taped up on the side of the bed that said "welcome to my tall bed. Remember that you must ask me first" That was in Norwegian of course and the "to climb up into it" at the end is implied. She kills me.
While we were all still away for the day at school or work or what not, the in-laws had come over to our house to begin work on the bed and my mother-in-law had dinner waiting for us when we got home. The kids got chicken wings and potatoes and we got a roasted turkey breast, vegetables and potatoes. It was awesome.
Men of a Certain Age is a really good show. I think Ray Romano is underestimated as an actor and writer.
This whole NoJoMo thing is kind of ridiculous from a reader stand point. Yeah, it is forcing people to write. And I certainly benefit from the structure of having to write something every day. But it is getting rather ridiculous the number of entries one has to keep up with each day, and the entries, much like mine probably, get more and more dull, or like in my case, shorter, as I have said I all I really wanted to say and now I am just writing because having an entry that says, simply, "I am tired and have nothing coherent to say" seems like a total copout. So you write anyway, and this is the kind of thing you come out with and then you go out and read a dozen more entries from other people basically doing the exact same thing. Fun, no?
Videos!
So, when we last left this story, I had received a couple of albums from my aunt, who had been given them as a gift from some English dude she met in London. She didn’t like them, gave them to me, and my blackened punk heart started to soften. I liked this, even though my punk self said I shouldn’t.
The first one was Echo & the Bunnymen’s album Porcupine. This is far from the best Bunnymen song, but is still pretty good.
I still really love Echo & the Bunnymen. Even their new stuff has been really great.
The second album I got was The Psychedelic Furs with Mirror Moves. It was when they started really adding synths to their sound. I think I have even posted this video before. The Ghost in You.
The third song I am posting today is one that we all know but it holds a special place in my ears. I liked this song and video from the start, never knowing the connections I would have to it later, nor the fact that it would open up a conversation with some guy I worked with when I worked at the Italian restaurant, who would go on to me my musical cohort and explorer over the next few years. The song of course is Norway’s Aha with Take on Me.
Little did I know at the time the role Norway would play in my future.

All of these groups were my faves in high school. 🙂 I like reading the day-to-day dribble. You think you’re being dull but actually, that daily little details and the daily inner voice … i find it neat. 🙂
