Travels

Back home after traveling to Oklahoma.  Our return flight was delayed by an hour and we weren’t sure we would be able to make our connecting flight. But we talked to the agent and were assured if we missed our flight, the airline would find us a hotel room at no cost.  So we took a chance, and were able to make our connecting flight with less than 5 minutes to spare.  Which was great because I wasn’t sure we could find a hotel in Denver on St. Patrick’s Day.  Got home at midnight and spent the next day trying to rest.

The trip:  We got the deed to the property taken care of.  Drove two hours to meet with our attorney and go to a hearing before a judge so my husband could get a paternity order.  He is now legally recognized as having a bio dad.  The next day drove an hour to turn in membership papers for tribal membership.

The plans:  Prepare our current home to be sold.  Which means a lot of work because someone has neglected it for years.  Have a septic system and well installed on property.  Sell house.  Move to Oklahoma.  Find a rental while we build a new home.

How do I feel about moving to Oklahoma.  Let me tell you.  I’m not sure.  It’s dry and dusty and everything looks scraggly and tired.  I’m living in the Pacific Northwest.  It’s always green with lots of rain.  Oklahoma is a red state.  I wish I could find a purple state.  But that’s just me.  Previously, my husband couldn’t wait to move.  Now that there reality is becoming closer, he’s not sure he could live there.  I told him if he hated it, he could always sell and move back.  (at a huge price).

My husband’s new family.  Like any other family, there are good things and not so great things.  Personally, I’ve always kept my distance from family.  I was raised that way and when I was growing up, I always wanted to be closer to family.  But my mother preferred to keep her distance.  So I tend to do the same now.  Learned behavior.  Anyway, I will find a way to make new friends.  Our property is isolated and it will take a bit of a drive to get to town – 15-30 minutes.  There are mostly just cattle ranches around.  And no, I’m not doing livestock, of any kind.  I’ll try to raise plants, if I can.  It’s so dry and dusty.

New sights to see.  I will explore the area and make an attempt to visit the gulf coast.

New critters to deal with.  Rattlesnakes, ticks, and red wasps, oh my.  And my husband has an almost unrealistic phobia about ticks.  Maybe that will get better with time.  I don’t know.  Never had to worry about ticks where I live so it will be a learning experience for sure.  As well as anything else that pops up.

My husband has had a variety of health issues over the past 15 years and his energy level and motivation has been limited.  So I’ll be curious to see what he does with this potential move.

I’m curious how this will all play out.

Moving is so stressful.  Now moving to a new state which is so opposite from what you’re used to is a big step.  I hope it all works out the way you have it planned.  😎
