The art of the deal

My last post dealt with viewing a TikTok about a child who lied about putting a marble up her butt in order to go to the doctor to get a lollipop and stickers.  Which reminded me of my own family story.  This happened when my son was about 10 years old.  One day there was a knock at the door.  I opened the door and there was a woman standing there asking if I was Bobbie’s mother (name changed to protect the not-so-innocent).  I said yes and the woman proceeded to tell me that my son had been selling candy at school and she was angry because her son purchased some of the candy.  She wanted to return the candy and get her son’s money back.  She said my son was taking advantage of the other students.  I returned her money and closed the door.  It was kind of hard for me to keep a straight face because she was so angry.  But I was polite and kept the laughter inside.  I did have a discussion with my son.  I told him that it was not right to sell products on school property.  I think I also lied about possibly needing a permit to sell anything on school grounds.  But I had to make it sound good.  But in a way I was surprised by his ingenuity of trying to make money.  Buy low, sell high.  He definitely had a markup, but it wasn’t outrageous.  I don’t remember asking how he thought of doing this.  Maybe it was from selling candy for Little League.  I don’t know.  So, I do understand having pride in a child’s misdeeds.  At least my kid didn’t lie about sticking something up his butt to get candy.
