One Year Anniversary

Moving here, I never thought about anything bad happening. I’m the type of person who just gets up does things. After moving in with Alisha, she explained to me all about Hurricanes and whatnot. I’m so ignorant to the matter, I never thought about it. I grew up with earthquakes and nothing horrible ever happened, so I never thought anything bad really happening.

For the first time I’m surrounded by hundreds of thousands of people today that all know how each other feel. We have all lost personal belongings, loved ones, homes and even a part of our dignity.

A year after the fact and we are still faced with hardships. Many people are still living in gutted homes with nothing but a pillow and a blanket. Not even a pot to piss in. You drive around the city and they still have cars that have never been picked up. They have children who haven’t returned to school because so many schools aren’t yet open.

Today marks a year and so many of us find ourselves sad today because we look back on how things use to be. A city full of people who loved to be here and now it’s a city of *Are we ever going to rebuild*

Kasi and I lived with her parents for about 8 months before we moved back into the city. And yes…we were blessed because many people had no where to go. Many people were taken in by strangers or charities. We were taken in by loved ones. My dad and step mom helped us out while we were in Texas and even after we returned “home” they were there to comfort us.

I hate what this city has become. So many angry people because of so many ignorant people who dont know what to do to help when they have more resources than anyone else.

If you know someone that was affected by Hurricane Katrina or Rita, or even if you have a space in your heart that cares…at 9:38 today, please take a moment to say a pray, or close your eyes in the rememberance of the lost, the forgotten or just the city itself.

i know how you feel. everyone is so angry and hopeless. but take a look around at our city, and there is soo many reasons why people feel that way. kinda like we’ve hit a dead end. to your note. your right, we do always make it. thats why its “Louisiana proud to call it home” we are fighters. It will be ok some day. just keep ya head up.
