Pennsic Sunday Part II
Allar and his two campmates showed up not long after, with a gallon jug of Ick (a drink made of Everclear and an unknown fruit juice). I filled my mug with it and enjoyed it for awhile. Michael the Lost showed up not too long after. Then, Duncan urged everyone to partake of the food. And I must admit… it was very, VERY good food. I am in awe of his open-fire cooking skills.
I wandered off to the port-a-castle awhile later, and on my way back I ran into a small group of people walking the other way. One man stopped when he saw me, and we had a short, confusing conversation when he thought I was a lady he knew. He found that he had mistaken me when he waved his hands in front of my face and I didn’t kick him. I didn’t quite understand it, but to each their own. As I continued back towards the camp, Maggie and her campmates all came up behind me to join the dinner party.
Of course, my alcohol of choice, Ick, was long gone by the time I came back. I decided I wasn’t drunk… at all.. and set myself to making a new drink, Everclear included. I looked at my choices of alcohol to mix with, and chose the lesser of all the evils… a bottle of Amaretto. I figured I’d experiment with a 50-50 mix of Everclear and Amaretto. I filled half my mug with Everclear, then poured the Amaretto.
It was then I found out that there wasn’t much Amaretto left. I wound up with a concoction that was more like 80% Everclear, 20% Amaretto. Pride kept me from spilling the drink out. And I have to say.. it was a godawful drink. I might as well should have just drank the Everclear straight, for crying out loud. I offered a taste to everyone else, but no one had the guts to try it once I told them what it was. Actually, they gave me funny looks and told me I was nuts.
I was starting to feel pretty warm at that point. I decided I wanted to go find Valle’e, since he never made an appearance at the dinner. One of the guys in the camp.. his name eludes me at this point.. escorted me to Valle’e’s camp. n the way, I did convince him to try my terrible little drink. He only took one sip. Smart man.
I had to finish the drink off, of course, though I admit to spilling maybe the last two sips as a sacrifice “to the homies”. I think if I had finished it completely, I would have gotten sick.. Everclear isn’t something to be trifled with.
Valle’e never had returned to his camp. His campmates instructed me to make him beg for forgiveness next time I saw him, and I tucked that request into the back of my mind and returned to Duncan’s camp.
Vicol never showed up to the dinner, so I asked Michael the Lost if I could crash with him that night, since I figured Vicol had other things he was up to. Michael said fine, but eventually I noticed he had disappeared from the dinner. I’m pretty sure he said he was headed to Vlad’s, but I was a bit distracted talking to Angie, a girl from Maggie’s camp.
After awhile, I got bored of dinner and was tired (probably due to the Everclear). I started walking towards Vlad’s, but was just too shy and nervous to actually go into the camp to find Michael. Instead, I decided to spend the night in Vicol’s camp again.
It was really dark getting there, and I was afraid of walking off the road and into some ravine. Then, I saw tiki torches, and I wandered intot hat camp, and realized halfway into the camp that the layout wasn’t familiar. I was tipsy and lost! It made me nervous and a bit upset.. but then I realized that Vicol’s camp was the next one over. I half walked, half stumbled into his camp and found him sitting with his campmates by the fire.
I asked him if I could crash with him again, because I had lost the person who I had been planning on crashing with… he was more than sweet about it, and said I could crash there any time I wanted to. Relieved, I dropped into a chair and sat watching the fire for a bit… but I started to nod off, so he sent me to his tent to get some sleep.
I was just gone. I don’t even know if I remember Vicol coming in.. I just know I was down and out. It was late (or early, if you count 1 or 2am as morning when you haven’t slept yet).
I think I dreamed that night.. Weird dreams involving people in August Sun.. some that I hadn’t even met yet.
yeah i’m always amazed at people who can make gormet meals over a campfire. it’s all such a terrible hassle. me, i’m a smores and cereal kinda girl when it comes to camping. and everclear! whooooaaa doggie i’m never getting into that stuff again. i tried to drink it like vodka, and whoops, ended up drunk well into the next afternoon.
