10:44pm

It’s getting closer and closer to the day when I return to work.  I’m deeply saddened to leave Robert to go back to work.  And each day I work I’ll be gone 14 hours!!!  I hope he is ok.  I hope I am ok.  I hope the guys are ok, too.  *sigh*

I will start to look for work around here.  I wonder if I’ll end up having to take a night shift job.  I sure hope not!  (but it doesn’t look good!)

So, this morning I took my walk with Robert.  Usually we climb all the way to the "RATTLESNAKE CROSSING" sign.  Today, however, we climbed until THE RATTLESNAKE!!  I came around the last bend of our walk and BAM!  There he was!  Right on the right side of the driveway I climb was  a snake about 4-5 feet long.  He had a definite rattle (maybe 6 or 7 rattles) and black and white stripes above that for about 4 inches.  Then he had a brown pattern on the rest of his body.  I didn’t know if I should try to pass him, so I slowly attempted.  He raised his head a bit, but kept moving in the direction he was already going.  He slithered off the edge of the driveway and into the brush.  There he blended in real well (?!)  Makes me wonder how many other times rattlesnakes have been near me!  He then approached a grating in the driveway that must be a water drain.  He stuck his little tongue into the grating for a while and then finally turned his head sideways so he could maneuver into the grating.  I think it was rather daring (or stupid) of him to slither slowly into the grating, because when his head disappeared down the grating I had full access to his body.  He must have just trusted that I wouldn’t bother him.  (which of course I didn’t !)  I turned around and went home after that.  I felt it was a positive sign from G-d, seeing that rattler.  I hope that means that my going back to work will go smoothly.  I pray.

This afternoon we all went to the beach.  We went to Mission Beach so Curt and Roy could surf.  The baby finally got to have his first sand/beach experience.  He had the full experience, too – including sand in the eyes!!  OH did he scream and holler.  I had been taking some pics of Roy surfing (or I was ATTEMPTING to find Roy amongst the other surfers so I could shoot some pics) when I heard my name come across the wind.  I turned around and saw Dylan waving me back to him and the baby.  Robert was stiffened and screaming.  Poor thing.  I didn’t have any water on hand so I sent Dylan back to the car to get the water squirter Ihad accidentally left in there.  In the meantime I took my ice tea (plain) and rinsed each eye a little with that.  Then when I didn’t see either of his eyes tearing drastically, I put him to breast and he calmed down and nursed/ slept for a long time!!  Afterwards I figured out how to lean the umbrella into the sand to block the wind, and I made a little tent for Robert.  He was much happier then, looking around and kicking his little heart out!!  He spotted a person flying a cool dragon kite and watched that for a while too!  He was SO CUTE.  I’ll have to try to post pictures.

Meanwhile I realized that I need to get the wardrobe box that I put all my uniforms into when I was on Maternity leave.  I had cleared out our bedroom closet for the baby’s basinette.  Now he’s over 14 pounds and is quite big in the basinette.  When he startles he NAILS the side of the basinette and I hear the wicker crackle.  When he moves around I hear the basinette squeak.  It’s so cute!!  But I think in order to get ready for work, the basinette may need to go so I can use my closet space again.  Once again, I’m saddened that his first 3 months in our bedroom is coming to an end!!  WILL THE CHANGES EVER STOP?!  No, I’m sure they’ve only just begun.  Ah, well.  I knew the day would come when he’d be going into his new, beautiful crib here in the office.  (only feet away from our bedroom, but I’m still oh-so-sad!!)

*sigh*

rattle snakes should never be approached. They are very aggressive. They will attack with very little probing.

14 hours! Whoa! How long is the actual work day and how long is the commute?
