Stressed

So, yeah, see the title.

Part of it is other stuff but most of it is this bloody myspace movie thing.

I’m having real problems getting it written. I think that a huge part of it that I’m not really motivated enough. Let me explain.

I’d be fine if I really, really wanted to win it. If the prize was something I really wanted I’d be fine. But it’s not.

As mentioned in the entry linked above, it’s filmmaking by comittee. Which I hate. Had it been what I originally thought it would be (£1 million to make my own film) again I’d have been happy.

The reason I’m entering is because of the opertunity it’ll give me. It’s hard enough trying to break into the industry without turning something like this down. Hell, even if I only get to the pitch stage I’ll get to meet with people from Film4.

But I still feel like I’m entering for the wrong reasons.

I’m enthusiastic about Granite and want to get that finished and made. And I know that entering the comp represents a fantastic opertunity to help get that out there.

But still.

So, yeah. I’m stressed. I’m not sleeping at all well, I’m tense and usually have a headache of some kind.

Hopefully you can make sense of my random babblings above.

Am I right or wrong to feel like this? And should I be so stressed about it?

I think you’re right to feel how you do – because this is something major and has an impact on your career. However, getting overly stressed won’t help; you have to keep looking at the myspace thing as you said – an opportunity. If it pans out, great. If it doesn’t, then at least you gave it a shot, and depending on how far you get, you’ll have some industry contacts. *hugs*

I clicked on the link to have a look at what you were talking about, and I know how you feel. See for me, I wouldn’t even enter it because I hate the idea of my script going online, being pulled apart and changed by people that honestly have no idea what they’re talking about,and having it turned in to a piece of commerical crap. It’s like offering your baby up for plastic surgery by inexperienced

plumbers. For me, my writing is very important to me. by letting it be attacked by random people who aren’t in the industry…. that scares me. I know it would be supervised by the film company, but I just don’t trust that. I can see how it would be a good opportunity… but I don’t think I personally could put my heart and soul in to something that I was going to lose power of the moment…

it was handed over. I don’t know… this is just me and I’m a little too romantic about my writing. I understand changes in script are made in any situation… I guess I’d just rather those changes be made by someone who cares as much about my script as I do – and random people on myspace aren’t going to feel that way. I think it’s a really great idea, but just personally, for me, it’s not…

ryn: I write anything. While at uni I wrote all sorts of things, including a novella, and yes, scripts. I loved it. I haven’t done much since uni, though. I’m back to working on the novella – I want to either make it a better novella, or turn it in to a script. Who knows. But I do write. So… yeah. d xo
