Sinead O’Connor’s version of The Foggy Dew is magnificent, as is Fairy Tale of New York.

I’m sort of in love with Lily Allen’s cover of the Kaiser Chiefs’ “Oh My God”. We’ve got Mark Ronson to thank for that as well. I also really like David Bowie & Marianne Faithful’s cover of “I Got You Babe” for its sheer wackiness.

And anyone interested in interesting covers should check out the Residents. They aren’t for everyone, but their album of Elvis covers is amazing. They distill the songs down to their psychological essence. Teddy Bear becomes a dirge: http://youtube.com/watch?v=uLVSn3LCJXk

RYN: Actually if it was in the Sun I’d give it more credibility, their accuracy rate on Doctor Who stories seems to be about 80 %. It was the Star. I wouldn’t have even heard of it if various fan sites weren’t all reprinting it. It does sound really silly to me, but with Barrowman and Sladen already there, rumours of Piper’s return being reported in the Guardian and Noel Clarke remaining tight lipped in an interview with a sci-fi magazine about if he’s coming back… it starts to add up. Plus if the show is going on a years break maybe it will end with a bang? I wish they’d give the sodding Daleks a rest for at least one season.
