What is it with these doctors?

Anna’s wondering if the universe is messing with me.  I seem to attract the loopiest doctors.  I tried a GP today I’d seen a couple of times before, years back.  Before even asking me what I was there for, he spent what must have been at least twenty minutes spruiking Vipassana meditation.  Says he teaches it and does three or four hours a day.  Three or four hours a day?  Who is this guy?  Well it certainly hasn’t done wonders for his communication skills.  He mumbles and mutters almost incoherently, going on about how he’s utterly sceptical about naturopathy, but that his brand of meditation cures cancer and chronic fatigue syndrome, and that I ought to learn lucid dreaming.  When he did finally ask me what I came for, he wouldn’t even hear me out.

I wanted to get a Medicare referral to a physio who does a particular form of postural alignment work.  He wants to send me to his chiropractor instead.  I’m not sure what to do now.  The whole thing has just made me more panicky, more stressed and confused.

Well, at least one very small thing is settled.  I need to find a new GP, and now I know it won’t be him!

I’ll add him to the list.  There was Doctor D, who completely lost it and had a pink fit when told his "experimental" treatment caused symptoms worse than the disease.  And Doctor T, who offered to pray with me, tried to get me to join her pyramid scheme, and when she hadn’t seen me for ten years and I wasn’t her patient, told my grandmother that I shouldn’t be on a disability pension.  Then there was Doctor H, who did absolutely nothing about my health problems for years, and when asked to fill out my pension review form, couldn’t even remember that I was on a pension, or why, or that he’d filled out the last form himself!  Then he assumed I was lazy.

This is in addition to doctors I only saw once, like the one who prescribed opioids for constipation, the one who prescribed an antifungal that caused liver damage bad enough to put me in hospital, and the one who prescribed antibiotics for an infection that was "definitely viral", and was causing dizziness by affecting the middle ear, since "there’s no such thing as the inner ear".  And when I think back, I remember the doctor who told me to walk on injured knees in severe muscle spasms, the one who told me to put ice on them, and the doctor who told me it was fine to keep lifting weights with my injured hand, and thus made a minor injury last six months.

And people wonder why I don’t see doctors more.

Hi, saw your entry in latest entries. Doctors are strange but not all of them. Just get a referral doctor from a friend that you know, someone you can trust. Hopefully, he/she can sort it all out for you. Have a gr8 day. G~
