More on Fathers Day

I guess that dreadful Fathers Day dinner yesterday affected me more than I’d realised.  I spent last night dreaming I was a protector of giant furry spiders, which looked alarming, but were actually completely harmless.  My sister and others kept trying to kill them, which was awful.

You know, the dream felt so traumatic, but the more I look at it now, the more I appreciate the humour of the symbolism.  Me as a conservationist, with the Greens as a threatened species.  Greens policies appearing as huge hairy spiders to ignorant and reactionary right-wingers.  The right-wingers unable to understand how a conservationist could protect a thing that scares them, for the greater good.  The inherent violence of self-centered thinking made plain in the attempted slaughter of harmless creatures.  I think best of all, I like the experience of feeling utterly calm amongst fat furry spiders, the realisation that they were completely benign.  I love the sense of wonderment at seeing something that no-one around me is perceiving.  The secret world revealed right before me; revealed to anyone with the courage and curiosity to look.

On a brighter note, here’s how I wrapped the gifts for my dad.

Beautiful wrapping, indeed. Was it Father’s Day? God. I feel like a jew at christmas. We don’t celebrate father’s day at my house. Like it doesn’t exist. It’s liberating 🙂 Maybe my huntsman picture left an imprint in your mind. Spiders according to Jung and other dream analysts, represent mother figure not father figure.
