too nice

So, a couple of weeks ago my son found a check for a hundred dollars written out to cash in the gutter.  He gave it to me, and it had an address and phone number on it for the account holder.  So, I tacked it on the fridge and called.  I left a message, but never heard anything.  Over the weekend, I finally gave up on hearing from the woman and destroyed the check.

This morning, which was a terrible morning for many reasons, was interrupted by a phone call from the woman.  She profusely thanked me for my thoughtfulness, and my honesty.  She said she was glad that there were still nice people in the world.  I really felt good about myself after that, reminded of parts of my self that I truly like.

And to think that every time he passed that check, he told me to stop being "too nice".

Well, here’s to nice people getting their reward too.  Unfortunately, it is a prize he would never understand.

________

He announced his intent to move away this morning.  I wish he would just leave already.

________

ps: I am finally officially divorced.  Im happy about that.

*hugs* thinking of you… hopefully, someday soon…we can sit down (even across many miles) and have one of our philosophical, religious discussions that goes around in circles until neither one of us knows where it started. those were fun, and i miss them.

It was good to see your name inBOLD this morning. Should I offer my congratulations? Perhaps now you are free to do as I suggested a while back. If you think it is too early, then wait a month or two, but do something before the snow flies. Be well, my friend.

That was very kind of you. I didn’t know you weren’t divorced already especially since it’s been so long since you two were together.

that’s not nice, it’s just honest, and there’s no such thing as too honest.
