You should eat something

Open door
Apartment
Flat or house or whatever else
House
Sunlight
Plastic bags hanging from my hand
Close the door
Keys on the table
Towards the window by the dining room table near the kitchen
He sits on the floor
Leaning against the window
– Can I sit here with you?
He looks at me
I put the bags down
Sit
– What are you looking at?
He turns back to the window
— A dragonfly.
I look at the garden
– Where? I don’t see it.
Slowly he raises his arm
Touches the glass
And I see
– Mmm.
Hanging from a leaf
Motionless
I lean against his shoulder
My body against his side
– You should eat something.
He inhales
– Not what you’re thinking.
I stretch out one leg to bring a plastic bag closer to me
Hand inside
The high rasp of plastic moving against plastic
Touch each item until I find what I want
Open packet
Lift it in-front of him
Nothing
I feel his head turn
Flex and stretch so I can meet his gaze
– Biscuits.
Nothing
Then he raises his arm and takes one
Moves it in-front of his face
Stares
I settle back against his shoulder
Put the packet on the floor
Take a biscuit
Bite
I feel his head move
Then again
He moves and finally I hear the biscuit break
It’s a beautiful sound
I’m sure he can’t see my smile

i’m assuming when people say ‘biscuits’ they don’t mean cookies? by ‘biscuits’ do you mean bread/rolls? or something else?
