The Harpist
The Beast, the Woman and the Man sit in the front row of a concert hall
The stage is risen high above the floor on which the seating is located
This is analogous
On the stage, the Harpist sits on a cushioned chair at her harp
She plays and sings
The Woman turns to look at the auditorium
It is mostly empty
Towards the rear of the seating, the Beast, the Woman and the Man sit
She turns her body back to face the stage
In front of her, the rows of empty seats slope towards the high stage where the Harpist sits
The sound of her harp and her voice reverberating through the space towards them
A song is concluded
The Beast, the Woman, the Man and the Harpist sit in the front row of the auditorium
On the stage, a harp sits before a cushioned chair
– | – Do you play?
– Hm?
– | – Do you want to?
The Man turns his head to look at the Harpist
Returns and keeps panning to look at the Woman and the Beast
They look at one another
The Woman and the Man sit in the front row
The Harpist takes the Beast’s hands and guides them to where they should be placed
He sits on the cushioned chair and leans the harp slowly back against his torso
The Woman, the Man and the Harpist sit in the front row
The Beast sits on the high stage on a cushioned chair behind a harp
Looking out at the auditorium
A harp cradled in his arms
Stillness
Silence
This is the first image that I see before translating
The Woman sitting on the stage on a cushioned chair cradling the harp
The Man sitting on the stage on a cushioned chair cradling the harp
The Beast, the Woman, the Man and the Harpist sit on the edge of the stage, their legs hanging down, feet above the air above the floor
Behind them is an empty cushioned chair
In front of it, a harp
— Was this what it was like?
Yes
I look up at the walls, turn around to view the rear of the stage
Angled panels, reflection and absorption surfaces
– | – When did you make this?
I didn’t
If I can remember where it is, I can show you
There is an aspect of access, I suspect
If it’s the place I’m thinking of
– | – It’s good you brought it here.
Is it?
I don’t think I did it because it was good
I just did it
It didn’t feel as though it was something I needed
It wasn’t for me
Like many things
Like everything
And nothing
