Nerds

Hello ladies,

I’ve had a good week for the most part.

Diablo 3 came out. That game has been draining my life away. lol. But it’s fun.

Only 2 more months until my contract is up, and my life will start changing. I hope within 3 – 4 months I’ll be living in Tampa or Orlando, closer to home.

Or maybe have a game job and live anywhere. Don’t care where really.

I had a crazy meeting with my boss today.

Apparently SAIC (the people I worked with on my last contract) want me back. That didn’t surprise me. What *did* surprise me is that they want me back right now.

They’re offering a deal for me to work for them part time, while still working my full time job here at CACI.

Every day after work (M-F), they want me to drive from CACI over to SAIC and put in some hours with them.

And then on Saturday (normally a day off), they want me to come in and work.

Every hour that I work with them would be paid as overtime.

Although the pay is nice… I’m pretty sure I’m going to be turning that offer down. I like the people at SAIC, I do… but seriously? You want me to work an 8 hour day, then go to your place of work and put in another 3-4 hours? No way.

I like my free time.

And financially I’m doing fine.

It’s very flattering though. SAIC wants me back. CACI wants to keep me. And I’m trying to head south. I guess that means I’m doing something right though.

I remember a couple hundred entries back when I was worried I wouldn’t be a very good programmer.

And while I may not be the best programmer around, I’m actually fairly decent at it. It’s nice.

My game project is coming along nicely, btw. It looks beautiful.

I’ve been chatting at work with one of my cubicle neighbors. He’s a gamer too. We have a lot in common. And we have pretty funny conversations. Just check this out:

4:12 PM Bruce Riggs
(I don’t register the passage of time very well, I might ask you if a movie from the 90’s has been released yet)

4:12 PM James Vallese
lol
well this July, it’s gonna be one year since DH Part II hit the big screen

4:13 PM Bruce Riggs
Has Independence Day come out on VHS yet? lol j/k
Dang

4:13 PM James Vallese
lol dude, I still got VHSes of some classics
hell
the first Ninja Turtles movie for example

4:13 PM Bruce Riggs
Haha. Same. That was the best turtles movie. I also have all the DVDs
I even have the Pizza Hut commercial BEFORE the movie memorized

4:14 PM James Vallese
way off in the distance…
the game’s draggin’ on…
that one? lol
lol check it out… more D3 goodness from Penny-Arcade _http://penny-arcade.com/comic/2012/05/21

4:15 PM Bruce Riggs
Yeap
That’s the commercial.
Off in the distance, the game’s dragging on, there’s strikes on the batter, some runners are on… lol
I feel like a kid remembering that old thing

4:16 PM James Vallese
then suddenly, everyone’s lookin’ at me

4:16 PM Bruce Riggs
My mind has been wondering what could it be?

4:16 PM James Vallese
they point to the sky and I look up above

4:16 PM Bruce Riggs
And a baseball falls into my glooooooooooove
lol. We’re nerds

4:16 PM James Vallese
lol
nerds are gonna inherit the earth

4:17 PM Bruce Riggs
Agreed. There are songs about that.

4:17 PM James Vallese
lol
hell, the other day on Comedy Central, they were showing Revenge of the Nerds II
lol speaking of Turtles
friends and I have had entire conversations consisting of just one-liners from that movie
as well as other favorite movies

4:18 PM Bruce Riggs
Well. It was a shell of a good hit.

And then I also like the… personalities of the fellow programmers there.

Just check this out – I had gotten a bug where the user wanted me to “fix” a “bug” by removing huge features from the program. Features that many people used. So I asked another programmer how I should approach this, and his response was hilarious (to me, at least)

I feel really blessed to be a programmer. And apparently Best and Worst Jobs of 2012 agrees with me. =)

I feel like I’m – Winning. =) Like this video! =)

Now if I could just find needy women to give caresses and hugs to.

I’ve got a list, help me sort this
From the epic win to the desperately winless

Chicken nuggets?
Winning.
Bubble Gum?
Winning.
Pretending to text to avoid someone?
Epic winning.

Slow dancing?
Winning.
Slow pantsing?
Breaking the rules of the Geneva Convention?
Weak.

Adonis Blood?
Winning.
Violent love?
Winning.
Giving needy women caresses and hugs?
Epic winning.

Childbirth?
Winning.
Colin Firth?
Winning.
Tinky Winky’s purse?
…. Duh. Winning. Winning.“

Well. Take care everyone.
