Game Ranting
Only a week away until I start work.
I’m starting to get nervous. It reminds me of the week before I went to Basic Training for the Army. I don’t know what to expect, and that’s scary.
I have some of the same worries too. What if I’m not good enough? What if I can’t do it?
I think my biggest fear would be to get over to Panama City, and get fired shortly after, being forced to return home. That would suck.
True, I graduated as Salutatorian in my degree… but my degree is Game Development, and there are some differences between game software and real software.
Eh. I’m probably just being a worry wart.
I was so bored today. I practiced some programming. I just made some random stuff.
Then I went on a gaming fringe. I played the Legend of Zelda, beat it.
Then I played some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Beat that too.
Then I played Mega Man. Beat that too.
Then I played Diablo 2. Worked on my Sorceress. She’s level 58 at the moment. In Nightmare difficulty.
I always have to keep my mind occupied. Otherwise I start thinking about myself and my life. And then I get depressed. So I’m always keeping busy.
I think tonight I’m going to play the greatest RPG in the world – Final Fantasy 3. I think I’m just going to play my ending file. I love the ending to that game.
The more and more I think about it, the more I can definitely agree that Kefka was by far the greater, more powerful badass bad guy than Sephiroth was.
Sephiroth was just an emo mama’s boy, whereas Kefka was a kickass villain.
I could literally make a list of pros and cons about these 2
Kefka Pros
- Is an Insane Clown (That’s cool itself)
- Was a major character in the story for the entire game
- Killed far more people than Sephiroth. Sephiroth killed an estimated: 20 – 30 people plus probably a bunch of people in Midgard… probably a max of 1000 – 3000 people. Kefka killed at least an estimated 50% (and that’s a generous round DOWNWARD) of the world population… which is a couple million people.
- Kefka only died once in his game.
- Kefka was more evil than Sephiroth. Sephiroth wanted to wipe out all life on the planet, use the planet as a vessel to travel to new worlds, where he would create a new perfect species of life. Kefka concluded that all life was meaningless, that it’s only purpose was to end, and decided to destroy all life in the universe, creating a monument to nonexistence.
- Kefka drained the power of 3 Gods, absorbing all of their powers, becoming a God himself.
- Kefka ruled the world for over a year as a God.
- Kefka had an awesome theme song, and a cool sounding 16-bit laugh
Kefka Cons
- Kefka cannot come back from the dead. He doesn’t have Sephiroths ability to be reborn.
- He wasn’t always super powerful. Once upon a time, he was quite weak.
Sephiroth Pros
- Sephiroth can come back from the dead.
- Sephiroth has been powerful his whole life. By default.
Sephiroth Cons
- Sephiroth died twice in his own game. By one person. He can’t seem to beat Cloud. Three times if you count the movie.
- Although he was always the ‘goal’ of the game, he didn’t play a huge part in the game like Kefka did in his.
- He didn’t kill anywhere near the amount of people that Kefka did.
- Sephiroth has a pretty lame story. Realizing the experiments performed on him and about Jenova, he turns on Shinra and the world, and comes up with a plot to attack the Planet, absorb the energy when the planet tries to heal itself, and then use that energy to become more powerful.
- Sephiroth used the Black Materia to call the Comet, and then hid behind a forcefield like a little bitch, unlike Kefka who slapped his tower in the dab-smack middle of the continent, challenging anyone to oppose him.
- Sephiroth’s music, though good, gets old real quick. In a nutshell, it’s “Oh, oh, oh *pause a moment*, oh oh oh *pause a moment* Oh oh oh ohhhhhhh *repeat x 50*”
If anyone has anything to say about the Pro/Con list, feel free. If you have anything to add to any list, feel free to note me. Though I will say if you haven’t played, beaten, and mastered both games, I may not take you as seriously. Biased, yes. But if you haven’t played beaten and mastered both… you haven’t truly experienced both.
When it comes to the music of Final Fantasy 6 & 7… I’d have to say I like 6’s music better.
Granted, both games music was done by the same guy. And I know some really good tracks on FF7.. but in this case, I think it’s not the quality that makes the difference, but the Quantity. I think FF6 had MORE great tracks than 7.
Okay. Enough ranting.
So in my opinion, FF3 (6) is far better than FF7. I’m sure that debate will never end though. And people will always have their own view on it.
Take care everyone.
You’ll do great.

Uh, yeah 6 is like, a gazillion times better than 7. 7 is just overrated because that’s the first psx one.
Warning Comment
I didn’t finish it, or seven. I never finish games. But yeah, I have at least played it.
Warning Comment
I didn’t say “none whatsoever!” I just believe in limiting it. 😛

I believe strongly that video games improve logic and reasoning, among other cognitive functions though. It helps build problem solving skills. But it’s still good in moderation, after all, like everything else.

I actually read a book on it months ago, it was called What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy, and it was written by James Paul Gee, if you’re interested. It’s kind of dense if you’ve never studied how learning works in the brain, but I’m sure you’d find it interesting anyway. 🙂
Warning Comment
it’s not a very long book either. pretty short!
