Class Reunion

Don’t really feel like writing, but since stuff is actually happening, I figured I had better write it down. So this is more of a chore right now.

A week ago I was getting ready for my class reunion trip. I was going to drive down to my hometown on a Friday after work, spend Saturday going to the reunion, and then drive back on Sunday.

I practically destroyed my room packing for that minivisit… so now I’m going to have fun cleaning my room come this weekend. I also had to fix my sleeping schedule for the reunion. So I did that. But I have to admit – I like being a night owl, so once the reunion was over, I decided to switch back to nights.

Last Saturday was my 10 year high school class reunion. It’s been 10 years. Time flies. I was somewhat disappointed because the people I wanted to show up didn’t show up, and the people I could care less about showing up showed up (for the most part). There were some exceptions, of course.

Allen did not show up.
Bryan did not show up.
Dustin did not show up.
Jason did not show up.

However,

Jonathan showed up.
Mitch showed up.
Brooke showed up.
Curtis showed up (because I brought him and paid for his admittance)

And here’s the real surprise, someone showed up that I seriously did not think would EVER show up.

Cynthia showed up.

Remember her? Of course you don’t. Because the hacker attack of 2004 deleted all my entries about her (I still get peeved thinking about all the entries I lost from that hacker – I use to write a lot back then). Cynthia is my ex girlfriend from 2002-2003. We dated for 3 months, and we broke up when I joined the Army. We drifted apart from that point. She’s very hard to keep in touch with.

I didn’t think she’d show up because she is impossible to get in touch with. When I would send her an email, I’d get a reply months later. Haha. So an invite to a class reunion? Yeaaaaaaaaaaa she’d never get that in time. Guess I was wrong.

And here’s something even crazier – she hasn’t aged a day. At least, if she has, I couldn’t tell. It kind of made me feel bad – here I am, older, fatter, balder (though I purposefully worked for the fatter part). I just wanted to hide in my hat. Haha. But I stood up and got in line to say hello to her.

I think for a moment, she didn’t recognize me at all. Haha. And then when she recognized me we hugged and said hello. Got the formalities out of the way. It was nice.

The popular girls in school eventually took over our space and started doing… drinking games, I guess? I wasn’t really paying attention. The crowd started gathering around them so I hung out with Curtis and Mitch out back.

It was nice seeing a lot of my old friends again.

Something awkward – people I never really talked to in high school would strike up conversation with me as if we use to be BFF’s. I actually brought that point up in a conversation with some people. I wasn’t trying to be a jerk, I was just pointing out that I didn’t remember their name or something because I never really hanged out with them back in the day.

And thank goodness for name tags! I couldn’t remember half of people’s names, just their faces, but name tags saved me a lot.

Eventually there was nothing really left to do there, so Jonathan, Cynthia and I went over to Chilli’s for food and catching up.

Jonathan I didn’t really need to “catch up” with, and he didn’t need to “catch up” with me. We’re always in constant contact. Basically it was us learning about Cynthia, and Cynthia learning about us.

The last time I had gotten an email from her, she was living up north in West Virginia (I think?) working. But now she’s down in Tampa. She’s doing good, basically, and I’m happy for her.

I had forgotten that she is a gamer too. Rather, I knew she was a gamer, but it just didn’t really sink in, I guess. She’s playing WoW too. On a different server, of course. She’s got several 85’s, and working on her 90’s now. I told her about my love of Healing and my 85’s. We traded RealID’s and I added her on WoW.

We left Chilli’s and she was dropping us off (we left our cars at the reunion area) and in the parking lot of the mall there was a lone shopping cart. We made a joke how that shopping cart would make a great replacement for the AWKWARD PENGUIN meme. I really think it would. So I took a picture of it.

And now for some pictures:

The lone shopping cart:

When shopping for clothes, I saw this outfit and was reminded strongly of Mr. Rogers (Jennrific… =P)

I’m glad you had a (somewhat) good time! They’re up to level 90 on WoW now? Jeez. I haven’t been paying attention to the x-packs, since I haven’t played in a few years. I know that MoP came out… what’s the deal with the panda?

looks like a pretty good time 🙂 i love how people do that…act like your best bud when they didn’t say a work to you when you were in high school. so strange. it’s like they are trying to compensate for the fact that they were probably jerks back then 🙂
