Bruce Springsteen
One quiet moment from this week I was straightening bookshelves upstairs in Business when an Asian man came up to me, clearly not from the U.S.. He had been quietly reading in a chair for a little while. He came up to me and asked me if I liked music.
“I guess so,” I said, wondering where this was going.
“What kind of music do you like?” he asked.
I was concerned he was going to try and sell me some demo CD or something, but he didn’t seem like the type.
“I like all kinds,” I said, continue to organize the shelf in front of me.
“Do you like Bruce Springsteen?”
“Not really,” I replied.
“Do you know why people like Bruce Springsteen?”
I was suddenly all over this topic. I had often wondered this myself.
“I think it’s because he’s like the all-American working-man,” I said. “His style and sound resonates with a large amount of people that like his all-American rock and roll persona, I guess.”
“I don’t understand why people like him so much, I don’t like him very much,” the man said.
“I definitely understand what you mean. I’ve never been a fan myself,” I said.
The man nodded and thanked me, and wandered off to no doubt continue to ponder the meaning and purpose of Bruce Springsteen and his place in American hearts.
What an interesting encounter.

Warning Comment
I always liked Bruce Springsteen, but always thought he was over-hyped, over-sold. His very early albums were edgier.

That is part hilarious and part deep thought.
