Weekend Risk Game and Party

Yesterday was nice. Justin had bunch of his friends over and we had a major Risk game on the Big Board. There were 7 of us.  Everyone played conservatively except for 2 guys so they got wiped out early. Then with the cards from them  the game ended. It only lasted a little over 2 hours. One of the shortest games I’ve ever played. It was nice to see some of his buddies back from college too.

While we played I watched the Ohio State basketball game. They almost got beat by Xavier. OSU tied the game with a 3 pointer at the end of regulation then ran away with it in OT. Shouldn’t have been that close.

In the afternoon I just chilled in my office and got caught up on straightening out my office, bill paying, etc. while listening to some good ole rock n roll on my Bose. Since I was gone last weekend the place was a little in disarray. (Actually it’s really pretty neat by most standards. I’m just picky. And since it’s my office I can be.)

Diane made corned beef and cabbage and we pigged out at 7:00. After that  we went over to Dejan (Justin’s friend and neighbor) for a party. It was his sister’s birthday but really it was just an excuse for all the Macedonians to get together. They’re all first generation immigrants. Most of them have been here between 3-12 years. During the week they all work and other normal family stuff but every weekend they gather at someone’s house or their church. They can really let their hair down and 99% of the time they’re speaking their home language. Lots of food and drink. (too bad we had already eaten) Homemade dishes like you wouldn’t believe. Just the desserts must have taken all week to make. There were 3 different cakes, stuffed pastries and baklava. On the big television (54" projection" they were showing a big Macedonian party from the satelite. Those guys love to party.  Diane and I went at 9:00 and left about midnight. We only got to talk with a few of them in English so we felt just a little out of place. Just a little.  All the "kids" were having their own party in the basement. They’re very casual about alcohol. The kids were all drinking but not really to excess. Justin had a little buzz I could tell. We’re pretty casual about that sort of thing too but probably not as much as them.

This morning I slept until 8:30 then got a call at 9:00 from the cable guy. We’ve been having trouble. He came out and had to replace the line outside. Now everything works great.

Rght now I’m listening to my latest playlist – all Violin Concerto’s. As soon as I finish I’ll do some yoga and shower. Then I’ll  pack for my trip to Maryville, MO. I’ll be gone for 2 days (possibility of an additional 2). It will be a nice trip. I even look forward to the travel. It’s so routine for me now that I no longer find it very stressful. I’ll have a chance to read some more in my latest book "My Sisters Keeper" – story about a girl conceived as a doner for her older sister. I’ll also get to finish this issue of The Economist.  I’ll have a few days with Justin when I get back before he returns to school. –  Life is Good.
