The Cabin Model
Here is the model for the cabin under construction. It will be 20 feet long and 15 feet high. Building this helps to visualize each timber and give it a letter-number designation. For example, the front of the cabin is comprised of bent “A”. It has four posts numbered from south to north with a tie beam going across the top. There will be three more bents labeled “B,C and D”.
The rafters on the roof are interchangeable so they are not labeled.
The floor timbers are not labeled on this model either.
Plans are to complete the floor timbers before winter. The floorboards will be cut and allowed to dry over the winter and then installed in the spring. Also, over the winter We’ll cut trees for the rest of the cabin, saw them on the sawmill and I’ll carve the joints (mortises and tenons).
Is this a one room cabin?
@trunorth Yes, the cabin is a single room except for a small “bathroom” in the corner. There will be loft space up above for sleeping
