Skiing Continues to be Great!
I’ve been having a great ski winter since the first of January. We didn’t have a white Christmas or any early ski snow until this new year. But since then…..FANTASTIC!
There have only been three days when I haven’t gotten out there. I usually go for about 1 1/2 hours. Sometimes I go for longer and a couple of times I cut the run short but that’s a good average. Lately I’ve gotten into the habit of stopping by my brother, Gerry’s for a beer when I finish my ski. (He lives across the street). Two days ago he brought in another 30 pack of Miller Lite. (He likes the cheap beer). I can tolerate it but prefer something with a bit more body. I’m not a beer snob and I don’t care for most IPA’s but I really enjoy a nice amber ale or a Belgian style brew. Anyway, even a cheap beer is a nice way to end the ski. And it gives me an excuse to stop and chat to keep up.
My MIL, Gisele, was in the hospital with Covid so I’ll note a quick update. She is now in rehab. She is 92 and it is a very slow process but we have every reason to believe that she will get out and back into her apartment. Prior to the illness she was still driving and living in a 2nd story apartment. She would meet her friends for bridge several days a week (pre-pandemic, of course). Her spirits are down and she claims that she wish she had just died. Hopefully this is just the illness talking. She still requires oxygen but they are working on reducing it. Then she will need to be strengthened to climb stairs. We talk daily and I get regular updates from her case manager.
My shoulder rehabilitation continues to progress. Three weeks ago I got assigned to Krystal instead of the other two. She is very thorough and pushes me a lot. I love it. I’ve got most of my mobility back but I’m still lacking the last 5%. I only notice it when I try to put my arm behind my back and try to reach my shoulder blades. I also have difficulty doing hard work way above my head or while reaching under the vehicle. I’m confident that I’ll get this all back although I was doubtful when it first happened last September. I spend over an hour daily on stretches! Every other day I do the strength exercises in addition. It is time consuming but I’m determined to get back to where I was.
We’ve had a couple of nights below zero so I have had mornings to get my tax information together. I’m only waiting for one more 1099 form. I actually enjoy doing this type of stuff. I like manipulating data, analyzing it and that kind of stuff. I know this is wierd but I’m an engineer so maybe that explains it. I send my taxes off to be done by an old HS friend. He’s a CPA and very sharp. I know that doing this work is well within my ability but there are ever changing rules to keep tabs of. I don’t enjoy trying to keep up on all of that. I also benefit from his tax planning consultations. I do most of the work and then we meet to discuss. He has kept me from making a couple of costly moves that makes working with him very worthwhile.
That’s enough for now
