Concert and Presents

Well, the concert last night was great. Good father-son time for Justin and me. He played a good mix of oldies and his new stuff, all of which I really liked. The horn section really added a lot to the music. I don’t remember him having them when I saw him in 1977. His voice is deepening but he seemed to hit most of the hight notes with little difficulty. We were standing up the entire time clapping and singing along. I don’t go to many concerts anymore. It’s hard to justify the cost but one thing clearly noticeable was the lack of smoke. By the end of the show my eyes and sunuses were still fine. I always remember feeling awful after concerts because of that. He ended with Katmandu which is one of our favorites then he came back for an encore doing "Night Moves". We left during that song and listened to it on the way to the car. We got out quickly with no traffic. It was a Great show.

And speaking of smoking bans – Ohio passed a smoking ban on all public places effective Dec. 7. We’re really looking foreward to being able to go to a bar and listen to music without all the smoke. Our nightlife will pick up and I think all the worried bar owners may actually see an increase in their business. If they’re smart they’ll capitalize on it and advertise to try and appeal to the folks like us who have been staying away. There seems to be a lot of us.

After the concert we went to Nichole’s uncle’s house for the last part of the party. We got there about 11:30 and stayed until a little after 1:00. A bit late for us but the company was good and the we were a little wound up from the show. Lots of good conversation and a couple of beers (and a shot of banana Schnopps  ).  Got in bed about 1:30 and slept in till 8:00.

About 1:00 we opened up all our gifts. What a pile. We got Justin an MP3 player – Microsoft Zune – 30Gb of storarage and a 4 inch screen. We also got him a device he can plug his guitar into his computer to simulate the sounds of several different types of amps. Diane got Alexander Hamilton’s book, some music, Cloe perfume, 3 dolls and 3 Breyer horses.  I got lots of clothes, new gloves and boots. Then we all got TONS of other stuff that Diane picks up in her travels all year. The living room looks like a tornado hit it.

One other happening was the UVM hockey cats won again against St. Lawrence. It was nice to see them score 4 goals following the 7 goals last game. I worry about their offense some. Their defense is one of the best in the country. They’re currently rated #13 in the country. Go Cats Go!

Looking forward to seeing you both on the 26th! Our place will be looking like a tornado hit it since we are opening presents on the 25th and, of course, the boxes will still be piled up ready to go out! LOL
