Been Cooking Lately

I’ve been enjoying planning and cooking the evening meal lately.  I think this has been going on for the past few months.  I’m not sure how it started but it was probably during the pandemic. We used to go out for dinner 2-3 times a week. Now we’ve gotten out of that habit and gotten used to eating at home. Another factor is that I can’t get out skiing due to lack of snow.

So cooking has become my evening activity.  I’ll plan something out early in the day (sometimes the night before). Then, usually about 4:00, I crack open a bottle of wine, stream so music and start cooking. It’s been fun.

I grew up cooking from an early age. When my mom would go to have another baby (she’s had 9), I would cook sometimes. My father worked and my older brother was too macho. So I’ve always been used to the kitchen. I enjoy the creative element of cooking. I like trying to improve on each recipe a little each time.

Another plus is that the food is healthier, fresher and we select the serving size. Diane is trying to lose weight and she also has diabetes.

When we are eating Diane and I usually compare the dinner to what we get in a restaurant.  We use standards like “I wouldn’t complain about this” or “I would be delighted if I got this served to me”.  Sometimes I state that “I wouldn’t order this again”. But that one is rare. ha ha
