Something ‘Good’ to say
I like this season between summer and winter comprising in the northern hemisphere usually the months of September, October, and November or as reckoned astronomically extending from the September equinox to the December solstice. I like to say “Fall” because that’s what I was raised to call it and “autumn” just looks weird the way it is spelled.
Yes, I like something! Although it seems so brief. I’d almost rather like a longer season instead, but maybe it’s the brevity that I like – short and sweet. It may technically be from September to December but not around here, or at least not the part I enjoy. The part I like is mostly October and maybe some of November.
I love all the colors of the dying leaves, but that’s just visual. I like the chill with the still soft ground. I like the crunch of the dead leaves. I love the really strong winds, especially at night. Leaning into a really strong gust always reminds me of standing at the top of Mt. Washington. I like how the sunrises return from the depths of the early morning hours (except when it glares in my eyes off my rearview mirror or off the highly-reflective windows of “skyscrapers” – I hate that word.) I like the smell of the dead leaves in the wind too. I love apple and pumpkin season! I love fresh cider, especially hot. i love pumpkin pie and ice cream and doughnuts, etc.
These few months are also home to some good memories brought back by all the familiar sights, smells, and sounds. The other seasons have their memories too, but for some reason these are stronger or more abundant.
Don’t worry, I know this isn’t a normal entry for me, but I’m okay. 🙂
I love fall too! (I was raised with that word as well, and autumn has snobby connotations for me) It’s absolutely my favorite time of the year. The weather is exactly what I like, and just the clouds and the scenery are beautiful. However, I have never liked it when the leaves turn colors. I miss the green sooo much when it dissapears! It seems so desolate when the trees are empty…
