Is it Just Me?
Last night I watched “Unsolved History” on the Discovery channel. The topic was the events surrounding Princess Diana’s death and what they could do to prove or disprove the different theories. That’s not as far back in history as most of their topics have been so far, but I have to admit I tuned out most of the news around the time that it happened. Why? For pretty much the same reason I tune out the news around any big event – I hate hype. The most news I watched about a particular event was the day of and day after the 9/11 attacks. After that, it got old. I especially hated the OJ trial. I was rejoicing when that ended, though not because of the verdict, but because the damn thing was over. So, back to Princess Diana.
One thing that really pissed me off was Elton John’s dedication of his “Candle in the Wind” song to her. Now, I never had an opinion of her either way – she was just another famous person to me, but I thought that was a really cheap dedication. Whether or not the words were appropriate for her, it’s a recycled song! I couldn’t believe no one else seemed to care! Like I said, not for any love of Princess Diana, but it seemed rather rude to me. Nope, no one seemed to notice that (if I remember right) a supposedly close musician friend couldn’t even compose a new song for her. That song pissed me off every time I heard it from then on, and it was on the radio a lot.
Thankfully, they didn’t bring that song up on Unsolved History last night. 🙂
man, i wanted to see that! not that i knew much of her, but something in me always lists princess di as one of the three people i’d want to meet. i never thought too much about the song. sick again?

I always thought that it was in bad taste. I also thought it lessened the tribute to Marilyn Monroe. Not that I lost sleep over it, but it had occurred to me as well. I can’t imagine getting up at 5am every work day. I thought 5:30 was torture. I just never feel good in the morning, even when I wake up naturally. I hate the feeling. I don’t hit full stride for a few hours later.
