I am very lucky to have a supportive boss. I never thought I would say that. I have been struggling with how I am going to pay for the rest of my classes ever since the tuition reimbursement policy changed two years ago. I have been getting by with finding enough courses that are directly job related though not really part of the degree program to keep me going.
I went through everything I have left to take for my degree and found all the courses that are offered this fall. I got all the course descriptions compiled and presented them to boss to get his decision on what he would support through the tuition reimbursement program because I have exhausted my options for financial aid and student loans. Apparently you can’t get a loan unless you are going to school at least half or full time or you are attending a college other than the one I attend. I guess no one going to my school less than half time needs a loan. I know it’s a cheap school, but it just cannot fit in my budget. I don’t understand why it is so hard to get a loan for this school. I have looked at both federal and private, and I can’t find anything that I qualify for.
So I am really glad that my boss is willing to support the reimbursement of non-computer-related courses. Whether or not the reimbursement applications make it through all the levels of management remains to be seen, but at least it’s a start. The only courses he cannot support are the literature, and history courses. So I found two courses that he will support, apply to my degree, and are offered this fall at times that I can work into my schedule: Ethics and General Psychology I.
