I have dreaded every Fathers Day since my dad went to prison. You try reading through all of the cards for this holiday and see how many you find that seem even romotely appropriate for mailing to a convict.
I didn’t think it would be easy and haven’t even bothered for the last two years, but I decided to give it a shot this year. I hate this “holiday”.
What about a letter instead of a card? Or would that be more difficult? I’m sorry that this is such a tough holiday for you. It’s tough for me as well — it is difficult to even bother wishing my father a happy father’s day when my teenage years were full of nothing but verbal and emotional abuse. Thank goodness it’s only one day a year, right? Take care of you… ~Stephani

Showing family support is the BEST thing you can do for someone locked up. I work in a jail, not prison, but the heartbreak is the same. I suggest an actual letter as opposed to a card, talk about positive things if you can. Obviously you have your history with your father and know what will be best. I just wanted to comment because i see this kind of stuff all the time. The fathers who get letters and the fathers who dont.
