NoJoMo #2: Things I Learned

First off, thank you everybody for the compliments on her costume!

It was a lot of work, more than I thought it would be. I did a lot of things I hadn’t done before, so today I thought I would write a brief list of things I did/learned while making her costume.

1) I worked from a pattern for the first time.
2) I adjusted the pattern to make it look like the costume. (The overskirt, bell sleeves, and three piece bodice were all adjustments, along with the neckline)
3) I had to sew a curved hem.
4) I learned how to attach sleeves. (very badly, might I add)
5) I made my own bias tape for the neckline.
6) I attached an invisible zipper.
7) I learned attaching an invisible zipper would probably be a lot easier with an invisible zipper foot.
8) I learned to always assume that a project is going to take twice as long as expected.
9) I learned that I’m going to need a lot more practice if sewing is going to become a hobby, because it was stressful as all get out.
10)I learned that it was totally worth it when Sophia squealed and jumped up and down the first time she tried the costume on.

You are such a great mom 🙂 It was fab 🙂 You could try to see if the local JoAnn’s or Michael’s has any sewing courses coming up if you want to learn more?

I’ve never used a sewing machine before, I’m so jealous 🙁
