HOHOHO

Yo. This is totally me writing an entry. BECAUSE I DO NOT SUCK ASS.

Anyway, today is the day Mat and I fly home to England!!!! SO EXCITED! We’re staying there over Christmas, then bringing my sister and her boyfriend back to Antwerp for new years eve party!

Right now there’s a plumber in my apartment, gabbing away down the phone in Dutch.

Dutch is probably one of the uglier languages. You hear people speak Italian or French and they sound so nice and romantic, then you hear someone speak Dutch and it sounds like they are just… a bit special.

It’s gonna be so nice to get back to England for a little bit, where EVERYONE HAS MANNERS!

Seriously, the thing that pisses me off most about Belgium is there’s this lazy, inconsiderate attitude that kind of runs through everything. You see it on the street, people are so rude to you, they slam doors in your face, they barge past you, queues are more of a concept rather than a practice, customer service is ALWAYS awful. Many Belgians seem to just not really care about anyone else. They’re apathetic and will jump at every opportunity to do as little as possible. As soon as there’s a public transport strike, even people with cars will suddenly not make it into work. Every Belgian requirement or law is always about sending you around in circles unnecessarily, even returning a book to a bookshop means you have to visit three different counters within the store.

Belgians also take their working hours VERY SERIOUSLY. The refuse to work on Sundays, and actually protest if anyone proposes opening businesses on Sundays for extra trade and extra hours for those who need it. At my work, Belgian people leave at 5pm, on the dot. It doesn’t matter if they’re in the middle of a meeting, or if work still needs finishing, 5pm is home time and damnit, THEY’RE GOING HOME.

Also, the Belgian sense of humour is just…. awful. It is so so so awful. I watched some Dutch comedians and there has never been a less funny moment in my life. It was the most confusing, shitty thing I have ever watched. In fact, it actually made me angry to watch it.

Anyway, I need to get some breakfast now. I know I totally suck at writing entries on here now NojoMo is over, BUT I’m totally stalking all of you, so it’s okay. xxx

Funny, I don’t think of English people as polite – I think of it as a barging, sniping place but maybe we just do it slightly more passive-aggressively… or maybe it’s just that I take it for granted. Anyway, have a fun Christmas. I keep forgetting to thank you for the card you sent me, by the way, it made me chuckle. Thank you! xxx
