A question for you all…
Mat and I want a holiday but far away so we were figuring America. We found that IcelandAir randomly do very cheap flights to Boston, so we thought we could fly there and then either drive around or, if Boston is amazing enough, stay and do the amazing stuff. Or if any of you guys live vaguely near, we could come visit/couch surf.
So my question is, is there anything good to do in Boston? Or is it worth driving around places in the vicinity? Or even taking a road trip from there around… places? Does anyone wanna meet up? What can we do there or… around?
We haven’t booked the flights yet because we have no idea what there is to do, and it’s better to ask people than Google when it comes to recommendations. Any advice appreciated!!!

I have a couple friends who came from Boston, so I’ll totally ask them!

Boston is one of the most historic places in. our country! I have never been…

How is this a question for us all? I have never been to America, thus I feel marginalised by your question. It’s quite hurtful. Especially since I supported you over TortelliniGate.

I know nothing about Boston, but I’ve always been fond of Gloucester, which isn’t too far away for a daytrip from there. If you like that HP Lovecraft cursed seaside town vibe, you could check that out.

RYN: Wrangler’s? Is this 1994?
Warning Comment
ryn: I was thinking in particular about “Mother Ann” in Gloucester- here you go: http://www.hplovecraft.com/creation/sites/mass.asp

Maybe you’d like Marblehead and Salem, then, too. Salem is fun because of all the cheesy witchcraft tourist traps.

boston has something for evrybody, literally, everything from quaint seaside towns to young/hip clubs you could easily spend 2 days in boston, and another week in surrounding areas

RYN: Your piglets mean naught to me! Naught! Hippos are the way forward.

RYN: While I’m not saying piglets aren’t cute, I am saying that they don’t come anywhere near baby hippos.

Hi! I just found your diary randomly, but I do live in Boston! If you have any questions at all let me know – it’s a beautiful city with a TON of stuff to do, I can give you lots of recommendations for things to see and restaurants, etc. Of all of the places you could visit in the states, Boston is an excellent choice!

I guess I didn’t really answer any of your questions – It’s totally worth driving around the area, there is lots around here, plus we’re very close to the ocean and Cape Cod (pretty famous beaches) are a short 1.5 hour drive from Boston. New York City is a four hour drive from here. Also worth visiting is Burlington, Vermont which is about a 3 hour 30 minute drive, but one of the most –

beautiful drives ever! Yes, the Red Sox are based in Boston so if you’re here during baseball season it’s worth it to visit Fenway Park if you care about baseball. But also there are tons of great neighborhoods with awesome shopping, ethnic restaurants, and downtown and in Cambridge there are lots of music venues and bars. Also worth visiting is Harvard Square, where I work. Lots of fun 🙂

Lol I hate you, ya jerk! =P forget it!

ryn: Definitely! The drive up to Vermont is totally worth it. I would love to give you guys some suggestions if you need them- also if you’re interested in meeting a few cool people- we’re not creepers, thieves, or bad people, and we’ve gotten pretty good at showing people around the city – unless you like to do more exploring/getting lost, which is totally how we are sometimes when we travel! 🙂
