Chipper
For this entry, I was going to record a video of my stomach growling. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out (Damn mic picks up everything else). I’ve also eaten since then, so I guess it’s time to just plow through a few paragraphs of the mundane happenings of another human life… mine. Yes, I’ve nestled into my home routine of full speed in hermit mode, which is almost an oxymoron. So here comes “Show and Tell”.
I am excited to show you my most recent acquisition from a recent shopping trip to my favorite used store in Madison. For $5, I picked up this… BRAND USED!… 10 AMP!… ROARS LIKE A JET ENGINE!… ABLE TO DISINTEGRATE STICKS UP TO ¼ INCH IN DIAMETER!!!… CHIPPER SHREDDER!!!
These things always remind me of the movie, “Fargo”. But don’t worry, my fingers can’t reach in far enough to touch the blades. With this baby, I’ll be able to put master gardeners to shame. That surface area thing, again.
For $2, I picked up this… BRAND USED!… RECIPE/MANUAL STILL INTACT!… ONLY DRIVEN BY AN OLD LADY ON SATURDAY NIGHTS!… BREADMAKER!!!
It’s more likely that it was sitting in a corner collecting dust for the last 5 years. These things are amazing in that they almost do it all. It’s called a “Toastmaster”, so it should be able to toast bread, too. Right? I’ll bet it can skin a squirrel.
Sometimes I wonder how much I own was previously owned by someone who is now dead.
I never thought that I would ever own either one of these machines. It’s all I can do not to slap my hands against and cheeks and scream, “I never thought I would be this rich!!!!”
Yup. For the price of a #1 meal at Burger King, I can really feel like a King.
Here’s an artistic endeavor that’s waiting for the right moment to get finished.
It’s going to be my hand railing for the stairs. It’s a giant grape vine that B and I hauled from the deepest part of the woods (where the tree limbs reach down and grab people).
I figure I’ll need to cut it in about seven or eight places (until it bends), and place a circular wedge in the cut to correct its angle. I’ll definitely need a hand railing here when I get old and stiff, like yesterday.
Here’s my parsley pot. It grew up from last year, and I have a few plants growing outside, too. I love to take credit for things that happen that don’t take any of my time.
I did plant this pot of lettuce about a month ago. I have volunteer lettuce all around but those won’t be ready as soon as these. I’ve be
en putting watercress from my spring on my sandwiches until my own greens catch up.
It is such a relief when a warm, spring day pops up. It’s wonderful to watch everything come back to life.
The greenhouse in the barn is growing things, too. I struggled for a long time trying to come up with a decent stairs or steps down from the barn. I eventually filled these cylinders with dirt.
I really like these because you don’t really know if they are steps after the barn door is shut. I put the pole in there for when I’m old and get stiff, like yesterday. Then there are other days when the temperatures are only cool enough to keep us from breaking a sweat when we’re working. That’s shoveling season. Here’s a road way in back that I’ve been leveling with a shovel.
When my shovel feels a need to be creative, I’m side-tracked into this hole I’ve been digging. It’s going to be a sunken, earth bermed, glass sided, year round gazebo with fire pit. Because I like that word? Because it is higher than the house or barn, it will get the morning sunlight much sooner.
That’s all. Thanks for putting up with this.
Random noter: I had to laugh at you trying to record your stomach growling…too funny! Is that a door in camo in the first picture? I love it!!! Great pics. Looks like you live well back in the woods.

You’re a busy man. Good thing it was yesterday when you were old and stiff. Did you stay stiff? Several times!

good entry – I enjoyed seeing your ‘world’ and the creativity of mind and matter. Ingenious idea about that grape vine. Brand used is always a better feeling of getting a bargain. As for the bread maker, I have two (I used to have two other foster children that could not get enough of home made bread!). I make the dough in mine but cook the bread in the oven – it tastes (and smells) so much nicer. Good for making pizza bases too. Sun dried tomatoes and fried (or if you are posh sauted) onions are lovely added to the bread making. As for the chipper – that won’t make good bread but it sure will be useful around your place. Must be lovely living up there. Best wishes, A
