Three Day MAXI Holiday!

The Three-Day Maxi Holiday!

Hellooooooo All!

I’ve been feral for the last three days and absolutely living the high life! This entry is going to be a blast, there are so many pics, and oh so much to keep you amused the whole way through. Firstly, I should explain how this all came about. As you know, Ani is going through the stages of becoming a fully fledged financial advisor, and in that process, I have to take a back seat in a lot of ways. What I basically mean is that I have to let her shine, and thus so really take up the slack at home so that she can concentrate on study and so on. As I have said before, at twenty eight, she has a HUGE future in front of her and I am more than willing to be behind her. I mean it has been said before “behind every great woman is a fucking amazing man” right?! Lol!

Anyhow, the point is that this time partners were allowed to attend the conference in Sydney, and she certainly let me do what ever I wanted to. She had planned in advance that our whole group of ten was to climb the Sydney Harbor Bridge, and at $250.00 a head, it was a huge investment to make. The problem was though, that she booked herself in before we knew we were pregnant. The rules are final, if you are under twenty weeks pregnant you MUST get authority from your gp, anything after twenty weeks is a definite NO CLIMB! As you would expect, her doc said NO WAY! So the company refunded her fee and she had a nice dinner out with one of our mutual friends Eugene.

For me though, well climbing that great monolith is one of the highlights of my life! Ever since I first drove under the “Storey Bridge” in Brisbane, I dreamt about climbing it. The difference here is that the Sydney Harbor Bridge is WAY BIGGER!!!! I had checked out the web-sites, seen the photos, but NOTHING can prepare you for the actual day! Now I am ok with, infact I love the buzz adrenalin gives you, as long as I am secured to whatever I am climbing ok! In this case, there is NO way you can fall to your death. I was harnessed to the bridge like a rivet lol. It took about three and a half hours to do the full climb, including the forty minutes of training that we all had to go through. If I was a larger man, I would have found it difficult to complete, there are many tiny nooks that you have to squeeze your way through to reach the next level. For the average person there are around 1500 steps to complete the climb and you burn off about 850 calories also. You can’t go for a pee once you pass the training gate, and they breathe test you for alcohol before you even get past the disclaimer form. I have never suffered from vertigo, but I do admit I was a little butterflied to walk the gang planks which are only about 40 centre metres wide and made of mesh so you see just how far up you were. Those planks were right in line with the rail line, so when a train went past you fukin knew you were in the wrong place!!!!

The best I can do for you all is post some pics and a couple of vids so you get an idea of just how high you are when you reach the summit. I was really NOT in a good physical shape to climb, I went surfing at Bondi beach that day and because I was drinking so much beer the night before I was dehydrated. I cramped up in both calves really bad and even had to hit the sand for a while so I didn’t have to raise the arm in the white water if you know what I mean. It was so embarrassing I have to say, but my legs ached even before I left the hotel for the climb. I just figured I would summons up the strength to do the climb and then cry in my own jocks after it was all over. Ani had little sympathy for me because she knew the boys and I were drinking our asses off lol! It really was party time 😛 Below I’ve listed some facts about the bridge itself, after that see the pics and the vids ok J

The Sydney Harbor Bridge.

Although the Sydney Harbor <

st1:placetype w:st=”on”>Bridge may not be the longest steel arch bridge in the world, it is the largest and widest. Infact it is found in the Guinness Book of Records confirming these statistics:

In 1967, the bridge was the highest structure in the city.

The bridge is 48.8 meters (151.3 feet) wide.

The arch is 503 meters (1,650 feet).

The summit at its peak is 134 meters (440 feet) above sea level.

Falling from the summit would take 5.3 seconds to reach the water.

The bridge holds:

8 lanes of traffic

2 train lines

1 cycle way

And

1 footpath.

AWESOME HUH! Well the day at Bondi was fucking fantastic too! Such an icon of Aussie tourism, almost all surfers I know around the world can relate to Bondi. I guess it is like most beaches in the world, but with the advent of the television program “Bondi Rescue”, it has become even larger than life. It aint exactly the “Goldie”, but it does have some awesome breaks if you head out to the nets J

Some pics from the day:

The last night was a gala ball and it was really cool J we had to dress up like the high life, but it felt great to get the kit on for the moment lol! The meal was wonderful, we danced to a frank Sinatra imitator, and then Ani and I headed home after wearing ourselves out totally lol! Check out the flouro sun glasses in the following pics, they cost us fifteen bucks each, but I assure you, we had people asking us all night where we got them 😛

After three days of totally living it up, we were both ready to go home. Funny isn’t it that we always have to get back to our roots, get back to where we belong. I missed the Thursday entry for the bub, but I’ll fill that spot in the next entry tomorrow!

Mucho Love to all you awesome friends from all over,

I Love You Guys!

Something I didn’t do in Sydney mainly because I would freeze with fear. I was shaking on the glass at the auckland tower – afraid it wasn’t strong enough – so you are a braver human than me 😉
