A Great Aussie Icon?…..

A Great Australian Icon?….

People of all nations, of all colours, and of all religions, “listen up”

There is one thing that makes us all the same, and it’s called “The Cold”.

Now I don’t know about you, but if my feet are cold, I’m cold all over! Thus said, Aussies invented something that keeps us all warm and fuzzy, and as I have just said, if ya feets is warm you all are right? They are referred here in Oz as “The Ugg-Boot”, that all important foot clobber used by millions to stay comfortable as the winter winds blow ya balls off!

When I was a kid, when the “Boot” was born (YUP IM THAT FUKIN OLD) it was nothing to see every person walking past you, in the all too familiar sheepskin clobber. Unfortunately though, as fate would have it, it was the derelict side of society that seemed to be wearing them the most. A new term soon grew as the fad of the Ugg-Boot faded into history. This term for the people who continued to buy the product (and proudly don them even in summer) was the “Bevan”, a most disrespectful term indeed!

Seems I have somewhat forgotten that term, AND the bad vibe that goes along with it. Ok, as some of you know, I like to paint pictures in your minds, so, its pic paintin time! Look, the bevans really had a long lasting effect on the rest of society, Infact they infiltrated ALL states of Oz, even the somewhat sleepy lil town I live in right now TWENTY FUKIN YEARS LATER!!!!!! Sure, they advertise them all over the TV screen every week, the comfort, the versatility, THE WARMTHHHHHHHH!!!!! So why is it that old farts like me can’t seem to retain the stigma that bad dress choices have taught me in the past! All we care about after thirty is the real things in life, you know, like keeping warm when it’s FUKIN COLD!!!

I saw the add on the tube, they looked so sensual I almost got wet lol! The old high style with the split side and leather laces that went all the way up and then folded over at the top to expose the sheepskin underneath (not that anyone needed to know what WAS under the leather outer). So hey, I went and bought em! I tried them on in the store, ohhhhhhhh so comfy, and soooooooo warm! My god they bought back memories lol! No hesitation, no problems with throwing out the bills, LETS AV EM BABY!!!!

That afternoon saw a much unsuspected response from my much loved other half Ani. Seems that here in Canberra, those who don the Ugg are directly associated with the poor folk in Queanbeyan, a suburb that lies just outside of Canberra’s border. The people are hard working, middle to lower class folk and as it seem, WEAR THE UGG!!!!! Well what a hell aballoo it was as I defensibly DEFENDED my choice of winter foot attire. Jesus, bottom line guys, IT”S COLD! Do what you have to ok, STAY WARM! I was met with a barrage of reasons why she would not be seen in public with me as I strolled comfortably down main streets in my sensible attire, that it was reserved to closed doors only, that no other human on earth should know you wear them lol!!!!

I figured a lesson was in store for her, a lesson that taught me I really SHOULD listen to my lovely better half a hell of a lot more! I guess the lesson was all on me 😛 Look, I thought nothing of wackin em on and going down the shop to buy milk, but it seems that the rest of Canberra had a problem with me going to the shop with Uggies wearing shorts lmao!!!!

I am a social reject 😛 AND LOVING IT!!!!!

Least I’m the warmest social reject in the city lmao!!!!!
