How The Government Works*

The day after I hurt my foot I got a phone call that has been a night mare. The program I work for is called Experience Works, part of the Texas Workforce commission. A lady I don’t know called to tell me that they need more forms for me in order for me to get my check or be able to go back to work when I foot heals. I had to get papers faxed from the SS office & from my retirement plan so they would have proof of how much I actually make. It all seems very fishy to me, but what else can I do but get the paperwork they are requesting. Well in order to do that, the retirement place requried that I send them a letter requesting the infomation & then giving my permission to allow them to fax them to the number I gave them. So I did that last Friday. As of yesterday, they said they are "reviewing" it then once its approved they will fax the info. Until then everything is put "on hold" The week I worked I’m not gettign paid for until they get the fax with the infomation. So as of now I have no idea when or if I will get my check, or when/if I will be able to go back to work there. I have strong paranoid feelings about all this. You see way back in 1997 I was fired from a job that I worked for for 6 1/2 yrs. I applied for unemployment & started getting a check. Fast forward to now… about the same time I got the phone call from the lady saying I need more paper work, I also got a letter saying that back in 1997 I was denied unemplpyment & they want me to pay them $5,000 now. So I have this deep feeling that its what all this extra paperwork is about. I have a feeling that they are going to start holding the $103 retirement check I get each month. 🙁   Ofcouse my supervisor says she doesn’t know whats going on but it sure has me worried. So this means that I am going to have to be late on my rent in June unless I get the check that I worked for. Its very nerve wrecking.
