~To Believe in Nothing-ness~
Hey everyone!
How’s your early winter going?
For me it’s been like this:
So last Thursday we had a terrible storm. As did most of the country.
This storm flurried for hours with snow. We got a few inches of that. It was all powder and easy to remove. Just like sweeping. But there was no stopping these winter clouds from giving us a treat with the snow, it had started to sleet. The sleet kept coming for a few hours while Jeff and I sat inside and prayed the dogs (Luna) didn’t want to go out.
We hoped the sleet that was a pain to scrape off the back porch was replaced by big snow flakes that seemed to quiet the night. But it wasn’t over it switched from snow to sleet a few times throughout the night.
The icy weather was brutal. It took Bruce and his girlfriend Lisa, almost two hours to get home from around the casino (usually a 30 min drive.)
And then when the boys got bored the spent two hours to walk up to Strawberries to get a Wii points card.
They ended up getting the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Zelda II, (from Nintendo) I think there might have been one more but I can’t remember it right now.
Now after that storm the roads were cleaned nicely. And I had to pull and all day at LOI (Lake of Isles) because of the damn seafood buffet.
I didn’t want to stay for the buffet is because I knew it wasn’t going to do good. Guess how many people were there. Keep in mind our seafood buffet, all you can eat was only $20.
Guess!
EIGHT. That’s right we had a total of three tables! a four top and two couples. During the buffet we split ten percent with the bartender. (the winter is so slow we all just make our own drinks so normally there is no real bartender.)
I made eleven dollars. I gave the Carrie three dollars. Because I felt bad.
while the buffet was going on it had snowed. The drive way to LOI was in pretty bad shape. They kind of half assed it after the snow from the day before and the freezing temperatures of the night made the drive way really icy. My dad actually fish tailed into our guard rail going around a turn.
And poor Jeff had to drive five miles an hour just to keep from sliding around.
What else…
Next Friday was great, not. Because of our big Thursday storm I had to set-up the intire buffet line. That means Angelo (my boss) and I had to get the tables for the Buffet. Neither of us had set-up a buffet before so we were compleatly clueless as to how many tables we needed. So we had to move around the tables we had to figure it out. Angelo kept saying his inner thigh was hurting and it felt like his nut was gong to pop. I was like ‘you shouldn’t be lifting heavy stuff. That sounds like a hernia’ but he kept on setting up tables and placing chafing dishes along the tables. I had to put in table clothes, a table skirt, and some crumpled table clothes for a ruffled look to the table. Yay! we finished setting that up. I went for a cigarette and enjoyed the cool air. I enjoyed it because I was staying for the buffet.
LOI had done one of the smartest moves ever, they finally advertised! Unfortunately, we only had three servers (everyone else was doing banquets of PDR functions) for downstairs and one of us had to be a bartender.
Angelo was our host.
Now at first we had our reservations come (most were from five to six) and then people just kept coming in. And Angelo our host doesn’t ask us if we are doing okay with our seven tables we already have, and just seats them.
It was chaos trying to figure out what table had what and what check needed to go where.
And to make matters worse since Angelo was "radio". he needed to check on the food at all times and tell Chef upstairs to make more. We ran out of everything. We first ran out of ice and then water glasses. Thankfully Joe had come downstairs and brought us more glasses. Then customers were angry because we wereout of like four different items. On top of trying to make sure that Angelo radioed Chef for all the items we needed I also had to grab plates off tables and make sure everyone had drinks. One of my tables asked for coffee. I came back over to them about five or six times before I finally did remember to get their coffee.
But at least that was the only thing that went drastically wrong.
After everyone had left we were able to talk Angelo into letting us finish breaking everything down the next day and he let us. Good. We were tired.
Bethany comes downstairs and is like I need some one for tomorrow nights banquet.
I agreed so I could make more money. And when I got home that night I was so tired I just couldn’t go to sleep for a few hours and didn’t get a lot of sleep. I worked my regular shift downstairs, cleaning up the rest of the buffet. and it was slow. very boring.
Then comes banquet time. I ask Bethany for instructions and although I’m tired I get through the night and Thankfully Bethany let me go before the end of the Banquet. That means I didn’t have to clean up anything and got to just leave.
Yay me!
Sunday was closed for the other storm.
I slept a lot.
I guess this is it for today.
