Can I sleep one more hour?
Happy St. Valentine’s Day, my friends. May your day be filled with love.
Wow, I can’t believe how fast the days have flown by. I really hate being away from OD for so long, but, as you know I’ve been very busy attending third grade. 🙂
Wesley continues to do very well. We were able to get the Ethernet cable he needed to get his ECOT computer hooked up to the router, and he’s up and running as of yesterday on his own computer. Yay! It sure was a lot easier to access all his assignments. I’m still dealing with his behaviors, but he’s adjusting well to the new routine and shows improvement each day keeping his attention on the subject matter. Until a parent is able to actually sit down and observe their child learning, I don’t know if they truly know all there is to know about their child. I’ve seen a side of Wesley that I never realized was present. He’s remarkably insightful. He picks up on things that normally I’d assume he would have no understanding of. He has the attitude of a child with low self-esteem, always saying things like "I don’t know" or "I can’t," but, he proves himself wrong every day without even realizing it until I bring it to his attention. A good example would be learning fractions. I, too, was very good at figuring out fractions but I didn’t expect to see one of my children pick it up so easily. He came up to me the other night and said, "Mommy, if I was born a decade ago, I’d be 10 years old, but because I’m only 9 years old, I’m only 9/10 of a decade old! Isn’t that cool?" He did the math in his head and wasn’t even aware that he was doing Math! He’s never done that before. And sitting in Math class with him, I see why he starts to get so antsy and squirmy. He gets sick and tired of the teacher explaining a problem five different ways to help some of the other students that he starts to get anxious and bored when he’s already submitted his answer to a problem before she even tells them to.
So, yeah, the boy is doing well and I’m learning a little more about how his mind works. The hardest part, still, is getting him willing to write much. I can work around that problem on occasion ( <—see? I did it Jen!) by allowing him to type his answers right into a word document and send it that way, but he still needs to write a majority of his work.
Another thing that has been preoccupying my time is that I’ve been helping to critique and offer edit suggestions on a book a dear friend of mine has been writing. It’s really a very good novel written in a genre I don’t usually read, so it’s got to be good if it keeps my attention. In fact, I’ve been having a blast collaborating with her on it. I have a lot of hope that she’ll be published some day.
Speaking of writing, my son asked me the other day if I’d write a book for him that he’d actually like to read. He said that most of the books the teachers make him read are "stupid." So, I’ve been throwing around some ideas of a Kid book I might try my hand at writing. I won’t have time to put in it, though, until school lets out in the summer. Right now I’m lucky to have a couple of hours to myself and, like I said, I’m having fun using my free time helping my friend. Not to mention I’m learning a lot from her, too. 🙂
Other than that, everything else around here is pretty much the same. Hubby continues to go to work every single day, being too stubborn to allow himself too much slack, and, until he just drops from exhaustion, I’ll let him be the judge of how far he wants to go. After a couple more weeks with our new school routine, I may have more time to come here more often. If not, I’ll definitely be back more regularly once school lets out.
I miss all of you and hope you’re all doing well. And for a dear OD friend who’s just started a different MS med., I feel for ya hun. That drug is no picnic and Stan never adjusted to the ickiness of it, so, I hope you fair a little better than he did. (((hugs)))
Be well, friends, and God Bless you all.
Until next time…
Happy V Day to you too!!…. 🙂
