Why can’t I travel without drama?

Well I’m on the road for my nephew’s wedding. There was drama at the gate when I boarded, some lady who paid a super-cheap economy fare and wasn’t allowed a carry-on ran past the gate agents and down the jet way with a carry-on, then argued with them right there at my seat about it. They let her keep it in the cabin, I suppose to avoid bad PR if they called the cops and they tazed her or something.  Right next to me was a lady with some sort of support dog, but at least he was well behaved and just laid there where her carry-on would go. And now at the airport I’m waiting at the rental counter for my parents to get here but the trains from the terminals are suddenly out of service and they’re having to wait on a shuttle bus.

I’ve been up for twenty hours now and I really just want to go to the hotel and sleep, but the hotel is another ninety minutes away because my nephew’s fiancée lives way out in the boonies.

Am I allowed to be a little upset at my sister in all this? I don’t mind paying for my own cross-country flight, I have a good job, but my dad is retired, and given my sister makes a lot more money than I do you’d think she’d have bought my parents’ plane tickets, if nothing else, but nope, they paid for them out of pocket. And they paid economy fares on an economy airline so they were probably crammed into tiny seats all the way over. And yes, I could have split the cost with my sister if she’d asked, but by the time I found out they were paying their own way it was too late to alter my plans and get a lower faire so I could pick up part of theirs. As it stands this trip is costing me my entire bonus, which I had planned to spend on my fence.

Not sure if I mentioned the mower drama or not, but I hit something a few weeks back and bent the crap out of one of the blades and the spindle that blade was on, and in the process of removing it I damaged the pulley for that spindle so it couldn’t be used anymore. I got all the parts in to fix it, and once I did I realized that the damn mower deck is bent too. I really wish I knew what the hell I hit. I’ve got a short-handled three pound sledge and some scrap 2×4 pieces, so hopefully I’ll be able to whack it back into a useable configuration or that’ll be a $600 repair that I really cant afford. And I’ve still got to figure out what I hit and make sure it isn’t still out there waiting to screw up the mower again once I get it completely fixed.

I’m going to go now, I’m sitting on a bench in an airport in a strange city and I’m sure I’m going to get asked to move along any minute now.

That lady is really lucky she didn’t get arrested for running past the gate agents! Sounds like you must have hit a pretty big rock or something with the mower, that’s too bad 🙁

@thediarymaster I was thinking the same thing about the lady, and if weren’t for all the floks standing around with cell phones in their hands she probably wouldn’t have gotten away with it.
