Two in one day!
Wow, I’m totally the anti-slacker today!
My state legislature wants to pass a law allowing the stocking of ponds with Tilapia so long as the ponds in question are not in any way connected to the "greater waterways" of the state. It’s a non-native species, and the intent is to give the native largemouth bass something new to eat. First and foremost, I’m not sure what the deal is but my state government seems to have a bass fetish. Seriously. Secondly, introducing any non-native species is a bad idea. Just ask any south Florida home owner whose property is anywhere near the Everglades. Pythons and exotic lizards galore, and there are rumors of a small but viable chimpanzee population as well, but I tend to discount those a bit. I’m beginning to think, with regards to the legislature, that we may have to apply the same advice I gave someone else on Twitter a few days back: anyone who wants to hold public office is automatically disqualified from ever doing so. Not my idea, that comes from Douglas Adams, author of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and the sequels as well as the Dirk Gently series. He also wrote Last Chance to See, an excellent non-fiction work about his travels to see in person various endangered species.
Today at the store was insane, and apparently yesterday was too. It is tax season, after all, and rather than tucking any away in savings people are spending the money like it’s going out of style. Which is good for the store, I suppose, but it tends to wear on the staff, since we are a bit short-handed, corporate deciding we were not going to hire anyone in January in order to try to bring in the year as a company. Not sure if we made it or not, I’ve been to busy throwing freight and helping customers to check my e-mails…
