Theme of the Week – The Bravest Thing
I don’t normally do these, but this one piqued my interest.
Not sure if this is the bravest or stupidest (there’s a fine line) thing I’ve ever done, but on October 7, 2008 there was a call over the paging system at my store for a fire at the front of the building. I ran out of the office, grabbed an extinguisher in my mad dash to the front, and ran out onto the sidewalk to find our propane powered floor buffer on fire, with the tank still attached. I stood my ground and emptied my extinguisher onto it, but the flames wouldn’t stay out because the tank was too hot.
After my extinguisher ran out, I thought I heard boiling, so I ran like crap since I’d just seen an "Engineering Disasters" special devoted to BLEV (Boiling Liquid, Explosive Vapor) explosions.
The fire department got there a little bit later and put it out, no explosion.
