Thanksgiving and Bah! Humbugh!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! As soon as I get my lasagna cooked and cooled I’ll have a piece and then off to bed. I go in tonight at 1900 and get to come home sometime before I go back in at 2000 Friday night. I really hate retail.

Every year I say to myself that this is the *very last* holiday season I’m spending in retail/hospitality/food service. I make a vow to myself to get my IT certifications completed and find me a "real" job as an IT support person. So far it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe this year, but probably not.

Now on to the Bah! Humbugh! part: I fired a guy this morning. It was right around 00:30 so it really was Thanksgiving morning when I did it. It’s not like he hasn’t been given every opportunity in the freaking world to improve. He’s gone through every level of reprimand we have, he’s had *two* "this is your very last chance" talks, one from me and one from Queeg and he still can’t seem to get things even close to right. He’s a walking cluster-flop, so to speak. He practically begged me not to fire him, asked for "one last chance". I told him he was on his tenth "last chance" already and I was through with it.

He claims I’m out to get him. Um, sure, whatever. Whenever I see him standing around with his thumb up his bum while he’s supposed to be working I ask him what he’s doing and why he isn’t actually doing what I’m paying him to do. Of course I do that with everyone, not just him, but he thinks it’s persecution. This is the same genius who blew up the propane-powered equipment a month or so ago.

So I let the senior manager who was opening today know about it, and he asked why he shouldn’t overturn the termination, so I told him. I just laid it all out like it happened, and he told me that was good, he thought the guy should have ben gone a long time ago but wanted me to be able to give a good reason for it if pressed by the district HR manager.

I finally changed Critter’s ringtone. It took a lot to do it, and a lot longer than it should have but I did it. No more Aerosmith, now it’s Hannah Montana’s "Best of Both Worlds".

I’m getting there…
