Sucky days off

Today sucked. I had to attend a picnic that our district folks were throwing for the hourly associates in the district. It would have been different if I’d known ahead of time that I had to go but I didn’t know until I got back from vacation and then I got it in an e-mail at work tagged on like an afterthought. The deadline to RSVP was the Friday before my vacation, and I didn’t RSVP because I wasn’t going to go, so no food for the ToyMan. I worked my two “volunteer” hours and left.

I don’t hang out with my employees when I’m not at work because that’s the fastest way to inappropriate behavior. I had my “work” personality on the entire time I was there (about four hours, ninety minutes before my shift and about thirty after) and it’s tiring to do that on my day off. Not that it was actually a day off since the picnic was about an hour and a half away from where I live, so that‘s seven hours of my day when I wasn’t doing things I wanted to do.

Add that to the four hours I had to work yesterday (on my other day off) my “weekend” sucked. My trip to work yesterday was no big deal because I had to go over there anyway to pay a parking ticket, but I only had twenty minutes of work I had to do, the rest of it was: “I know you’re not really here but…” crap.

And on top of all that, I have to go another month without an actual weekend off. We’re supposed to get one weekend a month and I haven’t had one since July 28/29. I was supposed to have this weekend off but I didn’t get it. I’m supposed to have November 3/4 off but I probably won’t get that either.

Retail sucks.

Yes that sucks. I think I went the first 5 years of my career with no weekends off.
