Step away from the PS/3…
Ok, so maybe it isn’t just Dark Alliance I can’t put down, maybe it’s games in general. Dark Kingdom just ate up four hours of my day and I didn’t even realize it.
Looked at parts and other things to get Critter’s big A/C unit wired properly and it shouldn’t be too hard. I think I can get it all done without having to go into the breaker box. Whoever installed it ran a wire over the ground from the breaker box all the way to the other end of the trailer to a receptacle that doesn’t even have a faceplate on it. And people wonder why the breaker trips every time it rains. And on top of that, there are at least two splices in the wire, neither of them done with anything more than electrical tape. What I want to do is to start at the breaker box with conduit, go down to the first splice (about two feet), take that apart and pull the old wire between the splice and the receptacle out and throw it away. Redo the splice inside a weatherproof “C” junction, run conduit and new wire from the “C” junction over the top of the trailer (not sure we can get underneath) and down to the other side where I will be replacing the box and receptacle with weatherproof ones and then add an industrial style plug cover that you can close while the plug is in use. That should successfully and forever keep the rain away from the electricity. I hope.
I’ve got to buy OS 10.4 for my desktop today. In case anyone is wondering, I didn’t see any great improvements that affected me going from 10.3 to 10.4, so I was just going to jump to 10.5. Then Apple decided that while it’ll run on a G4 processor, they want it to be at least 867MHz. Mine is an 800MHz. Grrrr. I’ve got no problem not being able to install it on my G3 laptop since even web-browsing is becoming a challenge with the explosion of flash content everywhere. Jeez people, aren’t animated GIF’s enough for some of this stuff? Seriously. I’m thinking when it comes out that OS 10.6 won’t even run on the G-series processors at all, and OS 11 will probably require 64bit hardware.
Another note on the PS/3 update – apparently that update had just come out the day before, so I figure Sony’s servers were a little overwhelmed for the first few days. I’m not sure, but I’d venture a guess that Sony’s Home Entertainment Server (HES-V1000) uses the same operating system as the PS/3 so they had every one of those plus every PS/3 in the country trying to download the updates. I guess that’d clog anyone’s network up.
Critter did go with me for lunch the yesterday and we enjoyed it. It wasn’t as good as it normally is but then I got to thinking and that’s the first time I’ve ever been there for lunch, normally I go for dinner so things are a little less hectic. We spent some time after lunch shopping and wandering around before I took her home. That’s when I bought Dark Kingdom. And since I’m going to be using it primarily as a Blu-ray player, I also got the remote for the PS/3 as well.
I have to go to work tomorrow night and I really don’t want to. Someone, quick! Hire me for 40,000/year to do something…anything…don’t make me go back….
Oh well, off to fix dinner now, sort of. It’s either going to be Hamburger Helper or brownies. I’ve got to get the meat cooked or frozen today but I really want the brownies too. I may just cook them both and save the HH for tomorrow.
