Seriously Cheesed Off

Well, I’m a little cheesed off right now. OK, I’m a lot cheesed off. Three things come immediately to mind.

I have to go back and re-do some of the department that we allegedly finished on Friday because it isn’t right. There are some fixture issues that need to be addressed. What makes me angry is that I told my team about these issues before they became issues in order to avoid them, however I didn’t follow up on my instructions because I got busy. I think that’s what makes me madder than anything else, the fact that I screwed up and I know it. Yes, I gave instructions on how to avoid these issues, but the reason I’m a manager is to make sure instructions are followed, which means going behind them and checking, not trusting them when they say they did it right. I’ll not make that mistake twice.

Second issue, Meg blew off some kind of appointment at the store today. It was probably just her final paperwork and drug test since she’s eighteen now and she can be hired, but still, she didn’t go. I personally recommended this person for a job in my department, because I thought she was responsible enough to do it. Apparently I was wrong. If she can’t get to the store for something as trivial as saying “yes that pay rate is OK” and get directions to the drug testing place then what is she going to do when Christmas comes and we have twenty pallets of freight to work EVERY DAY? I don’t have a lot in this world; mostly I have my word and my reputation. Her actions have damaged both, and I’m seriously pissed off about it.

And finally, I STILL HAVENT BEEN PAID! What do I have to do? Last Thursday I e-mailed the HR manager at my store all my current hours for the week and an estimate of my Friday hours. Friday I called her to confirm she had received the e-mail, and she said she’d make sure the hours got input. Later Friday my hours were FAXed over to the store by the person that’s supposed to do it and a manager (whom I trust implicitly) says she took the FAX off the machine and handed it to the HR manager. I stopped by the store Friday night when I got home to tell them my hours for Friday had changed and to confirm the rest of the hours were in the system. I was told yes they are in the system, and we’ll fix today’s time, no problem. I went over Sunday before I left town again to check in the computer, and the hours weren’t there. Thinking maybe there was a glitch or something, I waited until today to call someone to verify, and when she went into the computer, no hours at all. She’s not even sure the make-up hours from two weeks ago are in the system. I’m not waiting much longer for them to get their act together. If I don’t have proof positive that w/e 8/19, 8/26, and 9/2 are on my next check (due on 9/7) then I’m calling my district manager. I don’t care how late it is on Friday night when I get home. I’ll wake her up if I have to but I’m getting paid properly this time around or I’ll go to divisional, and then corporate. I’ve got names, dates, and proof, people. Someone will lose their job over this if it happens.

So that’s pretty much how my day has gone so far. Yay me.
