Plague

I’m watching a History Channel special on the Black Death right now. I was under the impression that it was going to be more of a "through their eyes" kind of thing. The "info" screen on my TiVo says it’s supposed to be accounts drawn from journals of the day, but it doesn’t seem ti be.

I’ve found a bunch of cool profiles on Twitter this weekend: several NASA feeds, an independent feed detailing when the ISS will be passing overhead (customized to your location), some American Red Cross feeds, and a couple from the CDC. And of course TWCi, so I can get weather emergency information. I’ve also signed up for mobile alerts on weather.com, I figured it was a good idea now, and it’s free.

I’m a little worried about the H1N1, but not to the point of panic, just prudent concern. I wasn’t all that worried about it at all until someone pointed out that it’s acting just like the Spanish Flu did back in 1918. And the only reason *that* comparison sparks my interest is that both of them are cross-species influenzas: the Spanish Flu was an avian flu. That’s been recently (the past ten or so years) verified when researchers were able to verify the location of a victim’s grave in the Alaskan permafrost. There was just enough DNA preserved to replicate, and it was confirmed as an avian flu.

I’m having problems with my phone. After I upgraded to Snow Leopard, my Treo stopped synching to my laptop. I’m a little pissed, especially since I intentionally included the Palm conduit upgrade when I did the install.

I ate way too much last night. Seriously. I thought I was going to puke it back up, I don’t know what got into me. That was badly phrased… I don’t know why I didn’t stop eating when I felt full.

Critter and OtherGuy are on a short vacation with the kids in Gatlinburg. She never canceled the honeymoon reservation, she was going to try to go by herself and get some alone time, but OtherGuy won’t let her do anything alone. For some reason he thinks he needs to be attached to her at the hip 24/7.

Does anyone else think Pawn Stars is the dumbest concept for a show ever?

I’ve been kind of tired a lot lately, I really hope I’m not getting sick or anything. I’m thinking it might just have been me de-toxing from all my meds: since I’m on vacation I stopped taking them for three days, just to let my body clear out (none of this stuff is supposed to be persistent, so three days should have been fine) and that’s when the fatigue set in. I wonder if it was the vyvanse clearing out? It is an amphetamine, and if I was saturated with it, then as it left my body and the effects wore off I guess feeling tired would be a result. Critter said she felt really tired the first couple of days after the three days she took it. Who knows?

No rain so far today, it’s positively sunny today. I might sit out on my porch and eat lunch later. did I mention I got a patio set? I don’t think I did. Anyway, I picked one up on sale, and it seats six people. We don’t have the umbrella that goes with it, but we have one that’s the same color I might buy until I can get the right one next year. Besides, If Critter manages to get the set she wants (it only seats four) then I can give her (or if she insists, let her buy) my "wrong" umbrella next year. It would be a little big for her set but that’s never really a bad thing for patio sets.

I did manage to get my other blog set up, but I can’t seem to get the CNAME thing worked out, so I can’t use my personal domain for it. Oh well, if that’s the worst thing that happens this week I’ll be doing pretty good.

OK. I guess that’s all I’ve got for now.
