More stuff

Trying to eat a little something before I go in to save some money.

I realize I had forgotten to share one of the really weird dreams I had in the past week. I was arguing with someone about the merits of incorporating Asimov’s three fundamental laws of robotics into an AI program. I was, of course, all for including them in the base code. After all, I wouldn’t want to be responsible for SkyNet now would I? And the other programmer was totally against it, saying we needed to teach it morals and human concepts of right and wrong and let it decide for itself. Whatever.

I sent a Happy Mother’s Day text to Critter. I got a thank-you in reply but nothing else so I figure she’s probably having a life or something since her mom has the kids this weekend.

The other manager at the store last night came really, really close to snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. He really did. And even then it seems like his folks got done in spite of him. He just hasn’t learned how to be a manager yet. For example: it was thunderstorming last night and there were shopping carts blown all over the parking lot this morning. One of the upper managers in the store was coming in and got on the radio and asked us to get some people together to clean up the lot. I sent three people to the lot, he went out and gathered carts himself. There were two pallets of freight left in his back room that needed to go into the racks, but the overnight folks had printed the wrong labels. He was told to have them fixed before the boxes were wrapped, so he went off to find a scanner and printer to do it himself, never mind that the day shift folks were in now and if he’d put two or three of them on it they would have been done in five minutes. Half an hour later when he’s done he called to ask where I was. I told him I was at home. He said something about me leaving him there and I told him I didn’t leave him anywhere. He was told he could go after he got that started but he chose to do it himself instead of following his instructions and getting someone on days to do it. I just don’t have much patience left with him. I have to do all the admin work for our shift because he’s to busy being a stocker to do it, and the other manager doesn’t know how to do some of it. I’ve shown the other manager how to do some of this stuff but I only work with him one night a week so there’s only so much I can show him, and two nights a week he’s by himself so he doesn’t have as much time to do them. So it falls to me.

I’ve been up since 1500. It’s going to be a miserable night, I can already tell. In addition to being tired all night long we’ve got three big trucks we have to get stocked and I’m going to be missing one of my best people due to a medical leave that starts tonight.

I really need a new job. I’ve been told I shouldn’t have much of a problem getting promoted once I come off of nights, but it’s a matter of how long it’s going to take while I have to put up with her on days.

Sounds like you do need a new job. One you can look forward to going to everyday. I had that but screwed up and lost it due to my disability.
