How Do People Function

Seriously, I don’t understand people that cannot perform basic reasoning skills in the wild. They’ll walk up to a self-checkout terminal with a black screen and just try to start scanning groceries like it’s working. I can’t tell you the number of times I’m asked EACH DAY if the self-checkout machines take cash, why the hell would they not? “How do I look up produce?” Um, I don’t know, maybe press the button on the screen marked “Look Up Item”? Just a thought.

It’s learned helplessness, and the pandemic only seems to have made it worse. If the national divorce doesn’t happen peacefully there are a lot of people who are going to be surprised they have to fend for themselves when the crap starts to happen. At least we already know who would be willing to sell us out for a few extra rations, they’re the ones who were screaming and yelling about the unvaccinated and/or unmasked among us that just needed to die already and reduce the surplus population.

I’m concerned there’s a reverse Free State Project going on in light red/purple electoral states. I’ve encountered a shocking number of people with local IDs that claim to have lived here all their lives that don’t know their way around the store and ask obvious “I’m not from around here” questions like where’s the nearest gas station? (in our parking lot) Where’s the nearest liquor store (across the street, but it’s only been there eighteen years so maybe I can let that one slide) Is this a dry county? (not for eight or ten years). I’m all for people moving to the area and growth, but if a bunch of people start moving here from Indiana, California, and New York and start voting for the same policies that made them want to leave those states I’m gonna be pissed. Where I live isn’t perfect, but it’s way better than most of the places in those three states.
